What Guests Are Saying
Hurricane River Campground offers a beautiful and quiet setting with well-maintained, spacious campsites located near Lake Superior and hiking trails. Campers enjoyed the clean facilities, scenic views, and proximity to stunning sunsets and the beach. While some experienced challenges with the reservation system and biting flies, many found the campground to be a lovely retreat and a great base for exploring the area.

Stayed in an upper site.
Restroom was very clean. Actually had maps & it was off season.
Highly recommend the campground. Did 20 plus miles of day hiking.

Great location from which to explore Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hike right from the campground or access nearby trails with a short drive. Absolutely gorgeous!

We stayed at the lower campground, which it means is right on lake Superior. The trail goes through it, so expect walking traffic during the busy season. We went at the end of the season so this wasn't an issue. The bathrooms are pretty close and accessible. The trails are great, you can walk to the lighthouse which is one and half miles from the site. On the other direction there is a small waterfall that goes into the lake, and a small bridge that goes over it.
We will definetaly come back, the place is magical and during slow season is a real paradise.
The small town of Grand Marais is very charming and about 15 minutes from the campsite.

I would have liked to camp in the Lower Hurricane River site.

Very peaceful, beautiful sites that felt very private. Easy walking distance from the beach at Lake Superior and to a 1.6mi tail leading to the Lighthouse.
No cell service whatsoever, which was great, just be prepared for that. We’d made our reservation but didn’t print out exact site so it took a while to determine which spot was ours!
Also would recommend going in Early October, as the leaves were still beautiful when we went in late October but it was just a shave chilly in the 30’s at night.

The place was very beautiful & quiet. On the first day of our stay there was water on the faucet beside the entrance office but for some reason it was turned off on our 2nd day of staying there.

Great location for rustic camping along Lake Superior shoreline. Be sure to take H58 toward Grand Marais and stop along the way to see walkouts to the lake. Also Lake Superior Brewery in Grand Marais.

Very pretty small campground. Lots of trees — tough to get a good solar charge for our rv.

Lovely sunsets on the beach and one evening we joined a crow for the viewing. Also a simple but close walk is from the highway to the lake along Hurricane River with a small waterfall near the lake.
Wish we had some notice about the water being shut off but it is at the end of the season.

Absolutely stunning fall scenery on the drive in from the west end. Great to have the south shore beach of Lake Superior so close! This was a one night stay on our way to the lower peninsula of MI. Loved it.
