What Guests Are Saying
Ausable River Camping offers a beautiful and serene environment, with spacious, well-maintained sites and picturesque views of the river. Campers appreciate the remote, rustic charm and the opportunities for fishing and hiking. While there are some concerns regarding ticks, road conditions, noise from generators, and occasional issues with campsite bookings, many visitors still express a strong desire to return for another experience in nature.

This site was beautiful & spacious! The trail dead ends at the site so there’s no one hiking past. The boat traffic around the site was a bit loud at times.
The parking area for sites 85&87 fit about 4-5 cars total, luckily we only had one. Road was well maintained & the trails were cleared. Not too buggy once out on the peninsula.
Hiking in isn’t bad, about a 10-18 minute walk depending on your pace. Downhill to the site, the walk back uphill is a bit tougher obviously.
No real way to get down to the river from the campsite. It’s an incredibly steep drop.
Seems people burnt most of the logs that once sat around the fire pit. And there’s no cooking grate on the fire pit, so plan accordingly.
Overall gorgeous.

We checked in from the campsite and although Josh was having technical difficulties, he promptly returned our call once he was able to resolve the issues and secure the site for us.

Over the course of two nights, our group stayed at 6 different sites. They were all well maintained and fully immersed in the beauty of our state. Site #18 was a little tough to identify and the climb up to the site was really steep, but otherwise we had an amazing experience.

Really enjoy the secluded spot next to the river. Very peaceful and easy to access. Stayed close to alcona pond for three nights and on the fourth stay at alcona pond campground and it was beautiful and quiet. Also great views of the water with easy access.

The boy scouts that were on our expedition, witnessed bald eagles, otters, ducks, swans, geese, A10 wart hogs and so many other plants and animals, birds... that they had not seen before. We attempt to complete the same trek every other year. Thanks for making it so easy.
