Nearby Bearskin Lodge personnel were very friendly and helpful when I needed something. People I met in the campground were all nice too. Bathrooms for being outhouses were very clean.

We stayed in site 4 the night before we put into the BWCAW. Nice elevation on the site meant we could see the lake through the trees. It was convenient to both the latrine and drinking water station. Decent tent pad.
This campground has a variety of site types and cabins. Check it out!

Loved Alder Cabin.
Very clean.
Nice option for overnight stay prior entering BWCA.
One unexepcted issue was that potable water was not available in the campground. Sign at the spigot indicated water was available at Bearskin Lodge, but could not find water after hours. Not a big deal, as we had the water that we needed.
But overall, very nice campground, and we will use in again if entering BWCA from East Bearskin Lake.

This is a great campground. I try to at least visit it once a year. I accidentally locked myself out of the cabin and they were very quick to get me back in even though it was after hours. You can tell that the owners really care about there campground. I definitely recommend and I will be a repeat customer for years to come!

Highway access
East Bearskin Lake Campground is accessed via Highway 61, which runs north from Duluth to Grand Marais. From Grand Marais, visitors can take Gunflint Trail for about 26 miles to reach the campground.

- This lake has portages into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; when portaging or paddling from this lake and into another, be aware that permits may be required to enter (click here for permit information)
- Some first-come, first-served sites are available within the campground
- Bears may frequent the area; use appropriate containers for food and garbage and be aware of your surroundings
