What Guests Are Saying

Stony Point is praised for its beautiful setting, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favored destination for campers. Many appreciate the well-maintained campsites and access to the lake, with several guests returning year after year. However, there are concerns about maintenance, particularly regarding overgrown grass and inadequate pest control, which detracts from the overall experience.

We had a lovely stay at Stony Point, in large part because Tammy and Wayne were so kind and helpful. When we arrived we asked if there was any way to get a different site closer to the lake and Tammy helped to make that happen with a recent cancellation. The place is peaceful and beautiful, facilities were clean and Tammy was just so, so helpful!

Beautiful campground! The protected bays they had where we could pull our boat up were great, we didn't feel the need to pull our boat out every night as it was well protected in case waves developed during the night. The bathrooms and showers were clean. All in all it was a great experience and we would go back.

Very nice quiet campground. We have camped their many years. This years' experience was very different than in the past. To begin with on a positive, note The Hendricksons (campground host) are just super. They are always busy around there whether its cleaning bathrooms, blowing off walkways, cleaning fire rings, picking up garbage, mowing pathways to the outhouse or just being their friendly attentive selves. On a negative note, the campground isn't kept up like in the past (not due to the host). It used to be a very beautiful well-groomed campground. Now the weeds/grass are grown up in areas that used to be mowed attracting mosquitos/ticks and other bugs. That cut down on the campsite size making it more difficult for kids to play and yard games to be played. It appears that dog poop is getting thrown off in the tall weeds or people just let their pets wonder to the tall grass to do their jobs. I had to change shower rooms because I could not get hot water out of the original one, I started in. We love all the trees there but the ones hanging over the road need to be trimmed. The RVs/Campers today are not the same as they were a few years back, they are much larger and much more expensive. The limbs drag on the Roofs/AC/Antenna. Lastly it is posted that the campground will be closed after Labor Day. This is very disappointing. There are not many Federal campgrounds in Northern MN that are open after Labor Day anymore. To a lot of campers this is a perfect time to camp watching the fall leaves change colors and more time to spend around the campfire with cooler camping. We have nice weather here till Mid October, it would be nice to be able to do some camping before the long cold weather. I would normally rate this campground a 5+ but with changes this year can only rate it a 3.

Last year there were several issues, the biggest one being the campground needs an overhaul with the power. All sites are 30AMP and only on 2 circuits. Last 4th of July the campground lost power over half a dozen times and many for most of the day. I was excited to see they postponed opening this year to fix some issues, but when I arrived this 4th of July, no work had even begun and found out there was no plan to fix the electrical. This year when I arrived I was stunned to see the campground covered in weeds. They decided to only cut the spot where the camper is and around the fire rings. Everywhere else is solid weeds and bugs everywhere. You used to be able to walk through the campground to get to the lake, but now it is impossible. It is sad to see a nice campground not being kept up.
