What Guests Are Saying

Stony Point is praised for its beautiful setting, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favored destination for campers. Many appreciate the well-maintained campsites and access to the lake, with several guests returning year after year. However, there are concerns about maintenance, particularly regarding overgrown grass and inadequate pest control, which detracts from the overall experience.

As a frequent visitor to Stony Point campground over the years, I was appalled at the condition of the campground in a recent 2022 visit. We were greeted by knee-high grass and weeds throughout, with minimal mowing at each site. Some sites barely have enough mowed grass to fit chairs around the fire pit.
It varies from site to site, but one result of allowing this untended growth is a significant reduction in the amount of usable space in a campsite. And forget any possibility of letting the children run and play much beyond the gravel drive, unless they go into the very high grass and play along with the ticks and mosquitoes. And if anyone wants to experience a night in a tent outside of the RV, there is no space except in the high weeds and grass.
And the mosquitoes……rising in clouds from the high grass.
Stony Point has gone from a beautiful premiere camp ground to a primitive camping area reminding one of a hay field. To make matters worse, this untended overgrown mess is apparently the way the management has chosen to leave Stony Point campground for the future.
Stony Point campground also has been experiencing unusable showers and toilets since late 2021. Maintaining such a status quo in any home or business would be unheard of, so where is the management here?
One bright point…………The hosts are friendly and helpful.

When you reserve a campsite that states it has a shower facility and you show up to no running water, shame on them. Based on spiderwebs on the outside of the shower building the showers and toilets have been unavailable for sometime. The vault building was very dirty. The bottom of the dumpsters were rusted out so when you throw your trash in the dumpster it falls onto the ground. Mosquitos were awful. We won't be coming back here.

The grass was so long the ticks and mosquitoes were terrible. We couldn’t sit out & it was so windy fishing was difficult. We did go to the beach but it hadn’t been raked & there were weeds, rocks, branches and dead fish. The showers & toilets aren’t fixed but cost is the same. Be a long time before we go back.
