First there is no cell service. We walked up the hill to make a phone call. The one bathhouse open was nice and clean. The camp-host kept the campground nice and clean and was very friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

Bath houses were clean and orderly. Park staff/ contractors were diligent and knowledgeable.

We've camped here for years and its one of our favorites...but this last visit was not good. The gate person was the rudest man I've ever dealt with out here. Not just to me, but everyone I spoke to while we were walking. The camp host that cleans the areas have changed and it shows. The sites are in poor maintenance and need to be cleaned up. The bath houses were very clean and the cleaning staff extremely friendly. Not sure how its gotten this way but there was no presence of law enforcement or Ranger our entire stay and it showed. 20 to 25 mph vehicle speed was common to see even with kids trying to play. I'd pay higher camp fees if COE would bring back the nicer folks that actually cared about the campers and camp ground.

Site #76 FHU. Nice site, nice park. Definitely my favorite so far. We were there mid February and a lot of empty sites. Close to Columbus for shopping,eating or whatever.

We had a wonderful lot overlooking the water. And loved that the campground was close enough to town to grab a bite to eat.

This is our favorite campground, and we did enjoy our stay. The weather was beautiful & our site was nice. But... the attendant at the gate was terribly rude. As long as you are not paying them to work there you will continue to get this type of person. Luckily for the next campers he will be gone at the end of February. We sure did miss Randy, Kathy & Virgil.

A breath of fresh air after nearly 10 months of traveling the US, Dewayne Hayes Campground did not disappoint. It was recommended by the manager of a local RV Park which was full. Many of the sites are on the banks of a river. Site 89 has a great view. There are only two pull-through sites, 86 and 66, and I hope only people who truly need them will use them. Sites are well-spaced, roads are in great condition. Facilities are clean, cared for. There is a boat launch, too.

Campground falling apart. Nobody at the gate only positive was Ranger Coby. Undesirables hanging out around bath houses. Streets in dire need of repair sites not cleaned up. Had to clear limbs off site before we could park. Dogs not on leash and people not cleaning up after them. Used to be a safe clean park to go to - not anymore

Most people LOVE this campground. I like it OK, and here's my reason for not just jumping up and down with excitement: Our local camping club uses it as our default campground for monthly un-hosted campouts, so we go there several times a year; that's fine, except that it's only about 10 minutes from our house. and I don't really feel like I've "gone" anywhere. (We like to explore new places.) Plus, having been out there so much, and living locally, we've done pretty much everything the park offers. While most of our group prefers to camp near the pavilion on one of the sewer-equipped sites, we tend to go down to the end where we can get a site facing the Tombigbee channel and watch the boat traffic pass. (FYI, we are used to camping without sewer; there's a convenient dump station on the way out.) All of the campsites are fairly large and well-placed. For entertainment at the campground, there are roads and trails to walk (or ride a bike on) and the campground is adjacent to a day-use park located on a back loop of the river. There's a boat ramp in the campground and one in the day-use area that lots of fishermen use (I can't speak to how the fishing is, though). Children will find a couple of playgrounds to occupy their time. The campground is well-maintained, and the hosts are friendly. Outside the park area, the Columbus area has lots of beautiful antebellum homes that can be viewed on a driving tour, and some are open for touring year-round by appointment; it's also home to MS University for Women and only about 30 miles from MSU and Starkville. Along Hwy 45N or nearby and downtown, you can find shopping and most any restaurant you'd like if you are so inclined. Give it a visit and have a good time!

Early season, just stayed for one night. Park has nice trails. Saw armadillos, turkey vultures and many birds. Gate attendant was very nice.
