Clear Springs Recreation Area (MS)

Park is really rundown. I booked site 14 it was so badly slopped I couldn’t level camper. After two days older gentlemen knocked on the trailer and offered to move us because he said that site was turned into a multi tent site. Web site never stated that. I was told website is never updated. Also you can only book even sites online and can’t see availability for the odd sites. Bathroom was clean but water smelled awful. Not sure what I should expect from a forest campground but this wasn’t what I expected. Most sites are too small for any camper over 30 feet. On a positive note camping in a national forest was still pretty cool with deer and turkeys on the main road coming in. Awful lot of trees down from previous bad weather also.

I was only here for a single night in a tent, but this would be an awesome pull-through spot for a camper. Tons of room and nice fire pit setup overlooking a steep slope. Bathrooms with flush toilets, sink, and shower just a short walk down the hill and trash on the way to it. Enjoyed a nice starry night in the tent. Quality NPS stay again.

Park is beautiful, old growth forest and outdated. Bathhouses very clean, grounds kept very well. Little cell service on upper loop and none in lower loop. Great Park for tenters, popups and small travel trailers but only a few spots can handle larger travel trailers or motor homes. We have a 27' with no slide and barely got in, parking the camper half on the tent pad and half on the paved section. No room to open patio area beside camper and have to set up behind camper. Most sites are like this. In upper loop, many pads are not level in parking area and are too short. Glad we went but will stay on lower loop next time so we can set up our patio under awning. Every other slot is reservable so is you have a travel trailer and going on a weekday don't worry about reservation and pick your spot based on your unit size and slides. Tent pads are the best I've seen anywhere, popups and small 20' campers will do fine, as the park is old and not updated, the park was designed for you. Park is very isolated and quiet. For anyone with a larger unit I would recommend scouting this one out if you are in range to pick your spot out because you may have to jump spots to find one that fits. Lower loop much better for level parking travel trailers. Small units and tents to upper loop. Don't let this review discourage you, it's beautiful and secluded and is a park worth visiting.

First I’d like to give Coronial shout out! He was awesome and stayed on top of his duties. For someone volunteering his time you won’t find better! However I do think they need more employees. The trails were grown up and the shallow end of the swimming area had a tree fallen in it. So grands couldn’t swim or hike. The camping areas however were very clean, bathrooms had toilet paper, etc. We never felt like we were in any danger whatsoever. Which was very nice. Camp sites were quiet as well.

Wonderful campsite inside the Homochitto National forest. Flat level sites with full RV hookups. Some sites are first come first serve, some can be reserved ahead of time. Great view of the lake. Camp site host Bobby is great, and available if you need help or have questions. Couple trails close by and day use areas/pavilions available too!

The site was cleaned. Water and electricity was superb. Amenities are in good condition. Although it stormed in the area, we had no issues with flooding or damage. The only thing we didn't like are the chigger bites. 😂 Cell phone service is accessible with certain providers. This is our 2nd year attending group site The staff was kind and helpful. He even check on us after the storm.

We tent camped in the lower loop. The area was big enough for our 9x13 tent (tarp recommended because we were on gravel) and our two vehicles. There were hook-ups for an RV; we used the water spout and one extention cord. There was a large picnic table and a fire ring with a cooking grate. I would bring firewood if we went again (there are plenty of pinecones, but not much else). The restrooms were a short walk uphill; they were clean and had hand soap and tissue. We did do the hiking trail around the lake. We started in the picnic area and ended near our site. The beginning of the trail and endding were not well marked, the middle was extremely easy to follow. There were several little bridges and stair areas and we came across a little garter snake (skinny and maybe 2 ft. long) on the trail- highlight for the kids. We will be back when it get cool again.
