About Wade Lake (MT)

Wade Lake Campground is located in southwestern Montana on the shore of it’s scenic namesake lake. It is approximately 43 mi south of Ennis and 35 mi west of Yellowstone National Park. The 25 site campground, including two group sites, is situated in a dense Douglas Fir forest on the hillside above the lake. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water taps are provided in each of the two camping loops. The campground is situated on a steep hillside. For many of the sites, particularly in the upper loop, the only flat space for a tent may be in the parking driveway. There is an undeveloped natural-surface boat launch and the lake has a no-wake speed limit. Visitors enjoy fishing, small craft boating, and nearby hiking and ATV trails in the Gravelly Range. Trailers longer than 24 ft are not recommended due to small campsites, narrow roads and tight curves within the campground. Check the driveway length and width before booking to make sure the entirety of your equipment will fit the site. Snow may hinder access in early or late seasons. Cellular service may be available at the top of the hill near the Forest boundary, about 1.5 mi away.  All sites are only available through reservations. To provide reservation opportunities for those who are unable to plan six months in advance, site numbers 6, 13, 17, 20 and 25 may only be reserved two weeks prior to arrival date. Sites 2, 9, 14 and 22 may only be reserved four days prior to arrival. All other sites can be booked 6 months in advance. Each new day becomes available at 8 A.M. Mountain time.

There are way too many inconsiderate people. Went 4x this summer. Every time I wished I wasn't there because of loud people. Went back only to see if it would change, but it didn't.
People are talking all night and / or snoring. Kids screaming all day every day. Babies crying every time. People are loud in the mornings, too. Shoreline just packed. People pee in the lake and their dogs pooping in it as well. It used to be super awesome. I think the day use fee should be $20 instead of$5. Do not go if you want privacy and quite. This year was way worse /packed/busy than any years past.

We reserved site #2 the second week of August. It was perfect for 2 trailers (the additional 1 paid for their 2 nights). and we loved the view. It was a hike to the lake, but well worth it. We left all our floating gear at the lake & no one bothered it. There were chipmunks. squirrels, a fox, gophers & deer in our campsite! We watched the meteor shower the night of the 15th & it was awesome to see up there because everything looks do close at Wade. The reservation system is a pain, but should be given to Montanans first, but has really helped eliminate the constant traffic through the campsites! The bathrooms were well supplied & cleaned & the road into Wade has been improved immensely! We have been camping at Wade Lake since 1969, there were a few cabins around the Lake where there are now campsites!!! We love it here & hope to return to it next summer.

Do not stay at site number 10....I didn't. I left because it was so close to the site next to it with 10 kids and a Hugh RV with generator.

We rolled up on a quiet mid week day to camp in september. A time when locals love to get out and camp and recreate after the summer craze. We get to the campgrounds that are not busy, and find out to camp you must have a reservation. No cell service. So we set up camp where it seems to be empty and I drive to the top of the hill to go find cell service to reserve the spot, only to find out that there are no available sites, yet it is almost empty. The campground host has left for the season, so what are we to do? Requiring reservations on national forest land is total bullshit. The campgrounds stayed mostly empty despite being "full" as many people who had reserved months ago never showed up. We witnessed other people arriving and having the same experience and packing up and leaving in search of somewhere else to camp. We need to save our national forests and experiences for the people who put in the effort to get there, not just clicking buttons from the comfort of their couch.

Such a beautiful place. Has a great resort just a short walk away to rent canoes or other small craft. Quiet, off the beaten path, and well kept up.

Great place. Can't wait to return. Be careful when booking. Some the sites are very small for trailers. All work for tents with nice picnic tables. Site is well maintained.
