The cabin was very clean upon arrival, with effective renovations and well-maintained furnishings, including comfortable mattresses. The fireplace provided ample heat, making the space cozy. Overall, it was a great stay, and the reviewer plans to rent the cabin again for future seasons.

The people before me swept up and it was very clean. The fireplace worked very well. I was actually hot and had to open a window to let some cool air back in. The cabin and bunkbeds were in great shape and the mattresses worked well too. The renovations to the cabin were done really well. I will definitely rent this cabin again during hunting season or even spring and summertime. It was a great stay.

Cabin was fairly nice, with great mattresses. Water pressure is great, but sink water needs to be routed differently outside.
Idiot campers at campground would run loud generator day and night, and would not turn it off at 10 pm, even though they knew they were supposed to. Road coming in is very bad (potholes all over): first couple miles after pavement was good, since I believe it's the county(?) that grades it, but the rest is very bad. Nice fireplace movable grate.

We snowshoed in for a sunny weekend. It was about 5 miles each way. On the last half mile, there hadn't been any snowmobiles in a while and we broke trail. On the way out, we took our snowshoes off about halfway back and finished by walking on fairly packed snowmobile trails.
The cabin was in great shape. The water spigot was working great - what a luxury! Cook stove and lantern worked. Pots and pans are usable. The wood stove is almost brand new and worked great. We had to leave the door cracked to really get the fire going but were able to close it down for the night when it was heated up. Only had to get up one time to feed it during a night with a low in the high teens.
Plenty of wood in the wood shed and a splitting maul. The door on the shed is REALLY tight! I could barely get it opened and then closing it was a real chore. The door needs to be trimmed down some. It's been worked on with a sander but needs more. Bring your plane or spokeshave and get on it! (I will let the FS know.)

Perfect winter cabin experience. Great snow conditions made for an easy 5 mile ski in. Cabin was clean and cozy. We enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again.

Kading Cabin was great when we went in July 2022. The cabin was in good shape. Good fishing in the Little Blackfoot River and the hike adjacent to the campground was very good. We saw 2 people and a moose there. The cabin overlooks the campground that's just 100yards away. No issues or noise with any of the campers. The road in is fine. Bumpy in spots. Flies near the cabin but hellacious.

Cozy cabin, with a babbling brook and trail access. Nice firepit, picnic table, thick mattress, water spigot close, propane stove (bring fuel), bbq (bring brickets) and lots of wood.

Skied into the cabin for an overnighter. Probably the 8-10th time we've done so (always in the Winter). It's a nice, cozy cabin and in Winter- very peaceful. There was plenty of firewood and a maul to split; no axe, so I recommend bringing a small one to make kindling with (maul won't work for that). The cabin has a propane lantern and two burner propane stove, so bring two bottles. As the wood stove is running most of the time we are there, I always set the big pan on the stove full of water (running water at a well head spigot feet from the cabin) to add a little moisture to the air and always have water for cleaning. The wood stove is pretty efficient, but plan on getting up a few times at night to add firewood (if it's cold) if you want the cabin to stay warm.
Enjoy!

We had an incredible experience at Kading. We snowmobiled about four miles into the cabin on about a foot of untracked snow. The cabin was clean and the wood bin stocked. This cabin has many supplies for cleaning and cooking. Two great perks: running water and a sink that drains outside. While we were there, we shoveled off the picnic table for the next guests and we stocked both the inside and outside wood bins. The cabin is equipped with an assortment of games and puzzles. The stove heated the cabin quickly. There is a propane stove and it works better than the one we brought. The outhouse seems fairly new: i.e. clean. All in all, we had a great time. We will come back next winter.
This isn't a cabin I'd go to in the summer. It is too close to the campground. Numerous entries in the log book noted the noise coming from the campground at night during the summer months and hunters in the fall.

Located 25 miles southwest of Helena, Montana in the Little Blackfoot drainage, the cabin can be reached via US Highway 12, turning left (south) onto Little Blackfoot River Road just east of Elliston. From this intersection, it is approximately 16 miles to the cabin. The cabin is located on the north side of the road, directly across from the entrance to Kading Campground.
During the winter months, Little Blackfoot River Road is only plowed on a regular basis as far as Hat Creek. Normally, the county plows the road to this point and makes a turn-around for parking.
