About Moose Creek Cabin

Moose Creek Cabin is situated in an grassy clearing surrounded by conifer forest in the Tenmile Creek drainage west of Helena, Montana. The cabin was constructed in 1907 and used by the Forest Service during the early history of the agency. It has served as a Forest Service Ranger Station, guard station, and work center for the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today, the cabin is a rustic retreat for guests seeking relaxation and recreation. The cabin is accessible by car, but guests should park on the adjacent road and cross a footbridge to get to the cabin. Many amenities are offered at the cabin, so guests only need to bring a few of their own supplies.

Moose Creek Cabin is a charming and well-maintained space that offers a rustic experience, complete with a wood stove and plenty of room for families. Guests appreciated its cleanliness, historical charm, and convenient location near trails and town. While some minor plumbing issues and proximity to a busy road were noted, the overall experience was enjoyable, especially in the peaceful setting.

Nice, quiet and clean cabin. Everything you need for a stay away in the woods! Great area.
Would stay again.

My children and I were here for 3 days after Christmas to relax. We LOVE this cabin. It was very cold, but the wood stove warmed everything up quickly. We actually got hot! We closed off the bedroom next to the kitchen and used that room as our refrigerator. There is a 2 burner gas stove which worked great. (we were told by the Ranger District it was a Coleman stove and you needed to bring your own fuel - not true) The kitchen table is wonky and hard to sit more than 2 due to a broken leaf. There is a nice love seat, all other seating is hard wooden chairs - bring your camp chairs! Lots of large windows with nice views, a great plowed parking area and a wonderful woodshed. The cabin is on the road, but we really didn't notice any noise. We hiked the trail right behind the cabin - steep but gorgeous views. I want to come back in the summer and hike up to the Continental Divide. Walking the bridge over the creek to get to the cabin added to the charm.

Lovely little cabin off of moose creek. Family Celebrated solstice 2020 with hikes, cross country skiing and was surprised by how big the cabin was. Tip: take a quick trip up the road to Rimini for an adventure to the gold rush days of Montana.

Awesome stay at moose creek. Right off the main road, so easy access, but a bit of road noise at night. Great hike right behind the cabin. Great outdoor cooking set-up and the wood stove kept the place very cozy all night.

The cabin is set up so very nice. The doors separating the four rooms is a great amenity for winter. The fireplace, once it gets going well, can heat the living room and bedroom very well. The natural gas line stove is very efficient, but doesn't have a low setting. There are more beds then the website indicates. There is a room with a queen and 2 twins and then a room with a desk and a queen bed. There are so many extras with the electricity. Microwave, coffee pot, coffee grinder, and pancake griddle. Please remember to empty the bowl in the cupboard under the sink. The treasure chest has so many fun games. The walls and kitchen ceiling could use a fresh coat of paint. The old cook stove needs a good deep cleaning, very greasy. I replaced a lightbulb in every room. Great history and book selection. Very thankful for the couch as well as the chairs. The kitchen table could be replaced. The door knob on the door under the awning porch facing Rimini Rd is loose and fell off into my hands in the middle of the night. All in all this is a very great cabin for space and amenities and it's close to town. We would definitely book it again.
