We visited Racetrack Cabin during the coldest week of the year and still loved it. The directions didn’t work for us - references to a plowed road aren’t helpful when there is no plowed road! (We parked near the first cattle guard.) There isn’t great signage but our best guidance is - once you cross the creek a second time, you’re about a mile away. This is our fourth winter cabin stay (third cabin) and the first ever to not have split wood. We always travel with an ax so it didn’t impact us but we could not have stayed if we hadn’t brought our own. Available firewood was quite low and we tried to use as responsibly as possible. The cabin supplies are sparse in general - plan to bring what you need and don’t assume the usual items are available. Our only request would be a glass window in the wood stove door so we could have had both light and heat. :) no complaints here, just want to help those who come behind to plan accordingly. It was quite an adventure and we’d love to return to check out the area in another season. Thanks for making this gem available.

Attention: The road to Racetrack Cabin is impassable to low clearance vehicles. The last 4 miles to the cabin is an extremely rough and rutted road with large rocks protruding from the road surface. High clearance vehicles such as trucks and SUV's can make the crawl up the road but should allow themselves extra time. The road is not plowed to the Forest Boundary in the winter. Guests should be prepared to ski/snowshoe/snowmobile up to 8 miles one way, distance to cabin and parking availbilty fluctuate with snow and road conditions. From Missoula, travel East on Interstate 90 to the Racetrack exit #195. Turn right (west) onto Galen and drive about 1 mile, then turn Right (North) onto Willow Cr Rd. Turn Left (West) onto Bowman Road, which changes to Modestry Cr Rd. and proceed onto Racetrack Road 169 and continue about 16 miles to the cabin. The Ractrack Campground will be on your left approximately 5 miles before the cabin. Maps may be purchased by calling the Pintler Ranger District.
Vehicle access cannot be guaranteed any time of year due to ever-changing weather or road conditions. In the winter, guests must be prepared to travel up to 14 miles to the cabin on skis or snowmobile from the end of the plowed road.
Racetrack Cabin is accessible via Interstate 90, approximately 25 miles away, with the nearest exit being Racetrack exit #195. After exiting, local roads are used to reach the cabin, but these roads are not suitable for low clearance vehicles and conditions can vary significantly.

Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
