What Guests Are Saying
The Stony Creek cabin is a charming and well-maintained retreat, perfectly situated for fishing on the Upper Rock Creek. Guests appreciate the clean and tidy accommodations, as well as the helpful camp host nearby. While access from I-90 may be challenging in poor weather, the overall experience is highly recommended, with many guests looking forward to returning.

This has always been my favorite USFS cabin to enjoy a peaceful stay in the winter. The access is easy, the cabin is cozy, and the surroundings offer stunning views, especially in winter. Users have left the cabin clean and preserved over the years, which is not something that can be said for all places on the map. Always a good supply of firewood, and the best wood stove set up of ALL the cabins I have been to (kept me very comfortable on a -15 degree night this year).

Would appreciate it if people would clean up their dog poop.........perhaps a sign reminder and some plastic bags there would help. This same problem occurred last year when I stayed at the cabin.
Appreciate the good quality firewood provided.
Would be great to have a bathroom near the cabin instead of across the road.

While the cabin is just off the side road across from the campground, it is in a beautiful setting. ( Walk to main road for Rock Creek access for fishing). Cute, well stocked, extremely clean, very thick, comfortable and new mattresses are on each bunk bed (for 4 people total). Cute table, hutch, 2 burner stove with gas containers, toilet paper, dish towels, amazing! We never used the wood stove so can't comment on that. Two windows, one screened to let in fresh night air. The outhouse to use is across the street in the campground. Be aware, cattle are just barely down the road so if you have a dog who likes to chase, be sure to bring leashes/long lines for outdoors. Picnic table also outside. Excellent overnight for motorcycle adventuring as well.

Cabin is located at the top of Rock Creek. Pros: Good location for driving to a fishing access. Cons: located literally next to a rock hill so its kinda limited on cabin style shenanigans in so much as there's no open space to really stretch your legs with the kids.
Overall, the cabin is a typical USFS cabin. I've stayed in a bunch and this is really no different than the others. It was a fun mid July experience, fishing was a plus. Fire roads up from the cabin a plus. Its quiet but its also located right across the road from a campground so it could be a gamble depending how much solitude you're looking for. Personally, I probably wont return to this one not for any reason against the USFS, location or things like that, just cause it really doesn't meet my what I've come to fancy as open fields and solitude for the simple reasons of the massive rock hill 20 feet off the cabin or campground across the road.
