Always a great cabin to visit. Good skiing in the area and many places to explore. The water was not working when we were there but we reported it so hopefully it will be fixed soon.

The cabin is super comfortable with significant historical value. It’s setting on the edge of the magnificent Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex makes it all the more special.

The most luxurious cabin in the state! The water is soul strengthening, the amenities ( most specifically the VHS selection and the cooking accoutrement) are out of this world...the one thing is it's hard to find...should be easy...but perhaps it exists in a vortex? Not sure, but both the instructions here and Google maps are not great. Look at a Gazateer and really read the signs: Off Hwy 200 coming from Missoula, turn left opposite of the turn off for Ovando (unmarked Dick Creek Rd...wonder why???), drive 8ish miles (the sign telling you you are on the right road isn't for maybe 3 miles) and park in the lot across from the turnoff for the campground. Ski across bridge and hang right onto the road that's closed to all but snow machine traffic. It's about a 1/2 mile. Once you go, you will never forget. It is HOME.
Also, most years the loop isn't loopable for the creek isn't frozen and the water crossing is doable but wet. We lucked out this year though and looped it to our hearts delight! What a lovely ghost forest!

After a one mile snowshoe walk on the flat road, we arrived at the Monture Ranger Station. The house was very clean, a few dead flies on the windowsills, but that's all. There are directions for the propane fireplace and thermostat. We enjoyed the firepit outside to roast marshmallows and hotdogs. It was very pleasant to go outside and observe squirrels and birds. A light snowfall the first night highlighted the tracks of the squirrels during the night.
The upstairs rooms are cool, but have space heaters. The four upstairs bedrooms are more like two dorm style rooms with a bunk bed and single bed, and an attached garret that holds one bed. The garret has no windows, but the bedrooms do.
Stairs are a little steep, and have a handrail.
We certainly hope to return!

Cabin is perfect with many amenities like electricity and water. There is great skiing and sledding right out the cabin door. The ski in is very easy (less than one mile over flat terrain) so we were able to pull in our gear on pulks quite easily. A snowmobile would be great but you really don’t need one. Will definitely go back if we have the chance.
