Indian Trees Campground is a quiet place to stay 3/4 mi off of Highway 93 in the mountains of southwest Montana. It provides access to a number of enjoyable recreational activities, as well as the vast scenery of the rugged Bitterroot National Forest. Beautiful location and wonderful campground! The whole campground is paved, including parking spurs, which was nice considering we got a lot of rain during our stay. The host was very nice and pointed out some of the surrounding attractions. We visited Big Hole Nat’l Battlefield Monument, went to the old schoolhouse in nearby Sula, and even went for a soak at the hot springs. Will definitely be back again.

Be aware that if you're motorcycle touring the road leading in isn't paved, also none of the sites are really made for tent campers, most of the sites are sloped, pads are flat and good for RVs but we ended up reserving site and skipped staying to find a spot better for tenting. Campground is nice and everything was clean. Just not a site for tenting.

Loved the campground. Very remote, quite, peaceful. Even a camp host. I did have problems finding it, I was going north on 93 to Sula. GPS had me get off on Lost Trail Hotsprings Road then it didn't give me any more info. I DO NOT recommend that. There is another road just north of there - Camp 729 Road. Get off there then the campground is easier to find because of signage. We also tried to locate the Lewis and Clark Descent Trail but we were unsuccessful. If we had 4 wheel drive we might have been able to explore more to find it but I wasn't comfortable on the narrow dirt road with my van and was not sure if I would have been able to turn around easily.

The site we stayed in was inadequately described on the website. It said it could house up to a 30 ft trailer. Our trailer is 20 ft and when we arrived, the site parking spot was very short. I advise updating this information to reflect accurate measurements.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
