About East Fork Cabin

East Fork Cabin offers visitors a unique chance to camp in the Bitterroot National Forest of southwestern Montana. The cabin takes visitors back to a rustic, old-time setting and provides access to a variety of recreational opportunities on public lands. The site is available year-round and offers additional camping areas to accommodate large groups. An adjacent picnic area and pavillion provides a convenient location for everyone to gather. The cabin can be accessed by vehicle, however during winter months (October through April), alternative resources may be required to reach the cabin. The road is plowed up to three-quarters of a mile from the cabin. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

What Guests Are Saying

East Fork Cabin is praised for its cleanliness, rustic charm, and well-maintained facilities, making it a great retreat from city life. Guests enjoyed various outdoor activities like hiking and biking, and appreciated the improvements in electrical systems for RVs. While some noted the lack of electric lights in the pavilion and occasional mouse visitors, overall, the experience was very positive.

Great place to relax. Make sure bring all your herbs and spices with you as there are none at the cabin.

The road is only plowed to where the pavement ends. The road to the cabin driveway is hard-packed. The cabin driveway is not plowed, and we slid off the driveway due to ice underneath about 10 inches of new snow, we were able to dig out and parked on the road. Advise a sled to bring in supplies. It was also neg 39, even with a fire going all night water bottles on the floor froze. But the pump house water did not freeze and the wood stove worked great. Tip: please bring the locks in the cabin and not hanging unlocked outside, when we arrived 2 of the 3 locks were frozen closed and took a lot of warming to open. Very little mouse sign!

Cross country skied, sledding & solstice crafts! -30 windchill but the wood stove kept us toasty. Rustic but clean. Minimal mouse droppings for older cabin. Great cookware & outhouse was pristine. Thanks USFS for these magical places!

A comfortable cabin for up to 4 people. The setting is fantastic, the road was plowed all the way to the cabin. Ample kitchen supplies and propane cookstove. Ample wood supply in the shed, be sure to chop replacements for next users. Woodstove heats up the cabin fairly quickly. Have stayed here several times and always have visiting mice. Traps are provided, just be aware you will need to dispose of them well away from any of the buildings on the property or take home in your garbage. Cabin and toilet were clean; guests have been good about sweeping and cleaning. Front door has pretty good sized cracks in it and could use replacement. Snow was deep enough for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and there are lots of choices for adventuring along the Forest Service roads.

Always a terrific stay. Recommend an empty cooler or storage bin to put your dry goods in at night to keep lil critters out of your foodstuffs.
