About Fish Creek Campground

Fish Creek Campground is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park, in northwestern Montana, is comprised of pristine forests, alpine meadows, rugged mountains and spectacular lakes. With over 700 mi (0.7 mi) of trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise for visitors seeking wilderness and solitude. It also provides countless scenic vistas for those wishing to relax and take in its natural beauty. The campground is located on the western side of the park at an elevation of nearly 3.5 ft (1,066 m). This area of the park generally receives the most rainfall. Daytime temperatures can exceed 90 °F (89.6 °F), although it is frequently 10° to 15° F cooler at higher elevations. Weather in the mountains can be varied, including snow in summer; visitors should come prepared for anything.All sites require a reservation. Most sites have a 6-month booking window with a good handful having a 4-day booking window.

I was sleeping in my car, so wasn't expecting much from the campsite. Still the bathrooms were clean, the site was nice and flat if I was using a tent. I had to be creative to get my car to be mostly level since the parking area was on an incline, but I really enjoyed the two nights I stayed. I would stay there again.

Campground tent site beautiful. Peaceful, clean, campground personnel helpful, friendly. Please come up with a better reservation system… too many no shows. Without wifi visitors cannot cancel. Disheartening to want to stay longer, see many empty sites, but cannot stay. Ranger station personnel have access but say their hands are tied. Please give them and park superintendents more power to control the park campground.

We were right by the lake and the kids could go down and skip rocks and we could still watch them and not leave the fire. It was beautiful!

Thank you Jesus for letting us stay here! Our trailer is 29 ft bumper to hitch, with a slide out and we fit nicely in this spot! We backed in trailer/truck on angle and still had room left for bikes, picnic table under awning and chairs around the firepit. Our trailer has a solar panel on top of roof, and it was able to charge through the trees. The sun does shine in spots on site, but also shade. You can access hiking n biking trails by walking or riding through the campground. If you are over 30 and bike the trail to Apgar and back, you should really feel good about yourself. Hosts/Volunteers come around often (shout out to Terry and Bill!). We had a GNP ranger walk up at site to tell us what was going on that night at the amphitheater. (TIP:: Ask Rangers/Hosts ALL the questions because it's hard (for me) to get ahold of a Ranger/Host when outside of the park-unless you drive up to an entry point somewhere n find someone). There is a dump station, and access to water in hose at dump site (just can't do a black tank flush). If you need water inside the campground to use while you camp, it's not far from this site either! VERY nice spot! This spot really seemed to be the clearest back in site. IMO BEST site in loop B! Would def. recommend and camp at B72 again. Blessings!

Site backs right onto Fish Creek - about a 5 ft drop into the creek bed. The camp site runs parallel to the river - fire pit is closer to the creek. There is a campground community water source at this site. The ground is very hard for basic tent stakes - I used heavy spikes and a hammer to get into the hard ground. I plan to book this site the next time I go to Glacier. I have 1 to 2 bars on Verison.

Love the campground and the hosts are great. Only complaint, and nothing that can be done about this is have a system to shift sites. We were there four nights and had to move twice.

Policies & Rules

General

  • Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area and when not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
  • Vehicle Length Limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.4 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors, are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
  • Maximum Stay. The maximum length of stay is 14 days.

  • Campfire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
  • Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
  • Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood within the same county in which you plan to camp. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. Firewood collection is prohibited within Fish Creek Campground.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
