St. Mary Campground offers a great experience with informative ranger talks, clean facilities, and helpful hosts. Campsites are generally well-maintained, providing privacy and beautiful views, though some sites may require leveling. Overall, this is a very good campground. There is plenty of parking at each spot, so you can have multiple cars or a large RV. Each spot has a fire ring and a solid, flat tent spot and some spots have multiple tent spots. There are bear boxes and water spigots about every 4-5 spots and two bathrooms per loop. You also get an amazing view of the mountains and the sunrise. The only negatives were that some of the spots were really close together and the showers were lukewarm, at best. I was able to get a 5G signal from the campground but my husband was not, so it just depends on your carrier. It was nice to have the store and restaurants nearby and there were ranger led programs almost every night. Finally, A Loop doesn’t allow generators, so it’s definitely a bit quieter there.

St mary loop A was flooded so my options were to cancel or go to rising Sun and check in with the camp host. I arrived at rising Sun after my hike and the camp host was off duty. When she finally came back she helped me even though she was off duty. The next night someone came to my campsite and said they had a reservation for my site. The apgar office didn’t get the message that I was given that site. Again we found the host off duty but she found another site for the person that arrived. Very poor communication between offices and someone needs to be available every day. It worked out but it’s not fair to have a volunteer with no back up when they are supposed to be off.

We had reservations for three nights and had three different campsites. I found it annoying that we had to move every day when all of the sites around us were all reserved for one night each.

On the plus side the bathrooms were nice and clean. The sites were pretty level. The roads in loop C seemed to be in much better shape then those in loop A. It was nice to have the evening presentations given in loop C.

Sites are pretty private with plants and spacing. Showers are on C-loop if that's important to you. A-loop is partly gravel and rough in spots but the sites are nice. Be sure to check out Kip's Beer garden in St. Mary. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but is surprisingly nice inside with good pizza and reasonable drink prices. Be sure to get groceries and gas before heading into the area. The complex in St. Mary's is very overpriced.

St. Mary’s Campground offers an incredibly convenient home base for exploring the park. Its location is unbeatable—being positioned right inside the gate saved us so much time getting in and out. We were also pleasantly surprised by the internet connectivity, which was consistently reliable throughout our stay, and having a dump station easily accessible on-site was a major plus.
However, there were a few downsides to our experience. The sites themselves are a bit tight, making it feel a little crowded. Our specific site was located right next to the bathroom, which meant a fair amount of foot traffic, but the real issue was the proximity to the garbage dumpsters. Dealing with the constant noise and the view of the trash area definitely took away from the relaxing atmosphere we were hoping for.
If you decide to stay here, I would highly recommend requesting a site further away from the facilities and the dumpster area to ensure a much quieter and more scenic experience.

I loved the campsite space and surrounding views. It was nicely maintained. The bathroom and water facilities were close and convenient. I do wish they had shower facilities on site and warm water but as this was a more rustic campsite, it was acceptable for a short stay. Staff at the entrance were very pleasant and helpful, and I felt safe and comfortable as a female, solo traveler/camper. The park is absolutely stunning and Saint Mary’s is at a great location. I would definitely recommend this campsite, one of my favorites of my 18-day trip and 5 National parks.

Great pull in shaded site, right next to the bathrooms which were clean and accommodating. No hookups and we couldn’t use our generator in the loop we were in but we were only there to sleep anyway. Great location to get into the park, make sure you do Saint Mary Falls hike. We took the boat across the lake to the start of the trail, which was awesome. Saw lots of wildlife, grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, and much more.
