The toilet block near our site was not open and there is no shade.

Great pull in shaded site, right next to the bathrooms which were clean and accommodating. No hookups and we couldn’t use our generator in the loop we were in but we were only there to sleep anyway. Great location to get into the park, make sure you do Saint Mary Falls hike. We took the boat across the lake to the start of the trail, which was awesome. Saw lots of wildlife, grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, and much more.

Great campsite. Nice view from camp with shade. Easy access to bathrooms, showers, and amphitheater. Be prepared for windy conditions.

St. Mary Campground is located right at the start (or end) of the Going-to-the-Sun Road which makes it very convenient. We had a great campsite that we ended up booking in a pinch after historic flooding cancelled our original accommodation. Spacious site, convenient to restroom and water, great views.

Overall, this is a very good campground. There is plenty of parking at each spot, so you can have multiple cars or a large RV. Each spot has a fire ring and a solid, flat tent spot and some spots have multiple tent spots. There are bear boxes and water spigots about every 4-5 spots and two bathrooms per loop. You also get an amazing view of the mountains and the sunrise. The only negatives were that some of the spots were really close together and the showers were lukewarm, at best. I was able to get a 5G signal from the campground but my husband was not, so it just depends on your carrier. It was nice to have the store and restaurants nearby and there were ranger led programs almost every night. Finally, A Loop doesn’t allow generators, so it’s definitely a bit quieter there.

St mary loop A was flooded so my options were to cancel or go to rising Sun and check in with the camp host. I arrived at rising Sun after my hike and the camp host was off duty. When she finally came back she helped me even though she was off duty. The next night someone came to my campsite and said they had a reservation for my site. The apgar office didn’t get the message that I was given that site. Again we found the host off duty but she found another site for the person that arrived. Very poor communication between offices and someone needs to be available every day. It worked out but it’s not fair to have a volunteer with no back up when they are supposed to be off.
