What Guests Are Saying

Thomas Canyon offers stunning views, a relaxing atmosphere, and plenty of hiking opportunities, making it a favorite for many campers. Visitors appreciate the clean facilities, well-organized campground, and the nearby creek for swimming. However, some concerns were raised about maintenance issues, such as the lack of a camp host and cleanliness of restrooms, which detracted from the overall experience.

On our next visit we are bringing a hummingbird feeder. The hummingbirds were trying to feed on anything that was red. Fun to watch.

The bathrooms were kept very clean. Hosts were helpful and friendly. A special botany class by a state biologist was a bonus! Good value for the camping experience.

We stayed at Site 18 which is a large site and fairly secluded. There is a concrete pad with a picnic table, grill & fire pit. There are shade trees, but the sun in July left the site fairly exposed until early evening. The pit toilets are maintained and just two sites away. We had a wonderful time, but next time we will try to stay in Loop C which is closer to the rushing creek.

Our family reserved the sites 17-20 in B loop for a camp with our 3 adult sons and their families. Grandkids were able to ride bikes 'round and 'round the loop until dark with no fear of cars. kids and dogs also enjoyed playing in Thomas Creek behind the campsites. Beautiful hike to Island Lake with many more hiking trails we didn't have time to explore. Bathrooms were spotless and camp host friendly and helpful.

Absolutely beautiful area! Only stayed one night on our travels to Colorado, but will definitely be back. Can’t wait to hike, fish, and explore more of the canyon.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
