About Slide Group Area

Just two miles from the village of Cloudcroft is this idyllic campground accommodating groups up to 90 visitors. Take advantage of the views of the Tularosa Basin or bask in the sun on the wildflower-dusted mountain meadow. A network of trails surround the campground, where you can look for deer, elk, and many types of birds. The region is part of the 1.1 million acres of Lincoln National Forest, where the original Smokey Bear was rescued as a cub from a forest fire. There's no shortage of beauty in the area, with expansive blue skies, clear nights for stargazing, and hikes to several peaks and overlooks. Attractions in the vicinity include White Sands National Monument, the Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, and the Sunspot Museum - home to the national solar observatory.

What Guests Are Saying

Slide Group Area is a fantastic camping site with a beautiful wooded setting and a secluded canyon ideal for younger campers. The camp hosts, Tom and Cheryl, are highly praised for their exceptional maintenance of restrooms and trash, enhancing the overall experience. While proximity to the Rim Trail may lead to occasional hiker traffic, the abundance of wildlife and positive group dynamics make it a preferred choice for many.

Great site. The only drawback is that it's close to the Rim Trail so hikers frequently walk through your camp to use the restroom.
The camp hosts are great! They maintain the restrooms and empty the trash regularly. They go above and beyond based on our experiences with other hosts.

Slide is Awesome. We as a group like it much better than the other group sites. Wildlife all around and show up almost everyday. Tom and Cheryl are really good host and kept us stocked with water and our trash and bathrooms clean. Already have it for next year and sitting ready to enjoy again.
