Great place, you have to go swimming at the falls when it is 100 degrees

We arrived when sites were available but we had not reserved one. No one would talk to us. Not sure why the camp host cannot talk to you when you arrive. Signs said reservations required but no cell coverage from at and t or Verizon so I’m not really sure how you are supposed to do that. Not sure why, when we did finally drive around to find coverage and reserve a spot, the host couldn’t put our name on the site. Not an easy or inviting process.

We used to enjoy coming to Jemez Falls Campground and have camped here since it opened more than 25 years ago. But the campground is NOT being taken care of.
1.The bathrooms smell awful and are full of flies. The Forest Service truck comes through daily and replenishes toilet tissue and that is it. SOMEONE NEEDS TO SANITIZE THE BATHROOMS AND HANG FLY STRIPS.
2.The trash dumpsters were overflowing when we arrived and they were not emptied during the five days that we stayed. Trash was all over the ground and blowing around. (The warnings are "This is bear country: lock up your food. What a joke!) THE DUMPSTERS SHOULD BE EMPTIED TWICE A WEEK.
3.The fire rings are so full of ashes that you can't make a fire. People are digging out the fire rings themselves and putting the ashes under trees in the campsites. What if the ashes aren't cold?! There could be a forest fire. THE FIREPITS SHOULD BE CLEANED OUT ONCE A WEEK.
4.The campground host did not leave his camper during our five day stay. His golf cart never left his site. He did not check us in, he did not change any of the campsite "reserved" signs, he did not clean the fire rings, he did not drive around the campground. He was the invisible man.
It is fortunate that people tried to clean up after themselves and leave their campsites in good shape. But the U.S. Forest Service, the campground host and Reservation.gov don't seem to care about Jemez Falls Campground.

No camp host to help and reservation system is confusing. I understood reservations can't be made for the same day so we thought we'd go see if any spots were available. No host to ask so we found a site with no name or date so we set up there only to have the reserved party show up mad. We had little to no cell service so making a reservation seemed once again undoable. Nice campground though.

Nice campground near a lot of trails in the area that you can walk to from the campground or travel to in a very short drive. The campground was well kept too.
