Beautiful campground with lots of great trails. The spot was not level, but we were able to get ourselves mostly level. We did end up having phone and internet service at the campground, which was not expected, so that was nice (Verizon). If you want to go back and forth, from the visitor's center and the campground, you will have to hike down about 3 miles, or drive. However, parking is usually full pretty early in the day. Check to see if the shuttle bus is running from the campground. It wasn't while we were there, so we hiked in and out everyday. The bathrooms were nice, but no showers. There is also plenty of drinking water available, and a convenient dump station. And, definitely check out the restaurant. The Doug is the best Green Chile Cheeseburger we have ever had, and that's based on a lot of experience! :)

Campground is devoid of shade. But a great place for star gazing and birding, not to mention the obvious ease of access to the ruins. Amenities are scarce but the remote location is quiet and invites reflection.

Nice campground. We have a 25 foot RV so just fit the limit for the campground. For paved sites they have quite a grade and it took sometime to level the RV so we could extend the slide. We raced to arrive at the visitors centre to check in before closing and the Ranger told us we should have just gone to the campsite. It was 10 minutes before closing so my wife asked a couple of questions regarding the trail and his response was "well your not doing it tonight". She stated she knew that but was just looking for information. His response was "You got the map don't you. You just come here in the morning.". Pretty cranky and perhaps he had a rough day but maybe should not be in the service industry. However, the display at the visitors centre and the trail itself with the Pueblo cliff dwelling was incredible despite the less than friendly welcome. Well worth the visit and it is a nice campground.

A quiet, pretty, clean campground with excellent hiking opportunities. In the evening we hiked the rim loop and in the morning we hiked down to the canyon to see the ruins, then back up. Loved it!

very clean comfortable and super well maintained, fire wood is provided for a fee. reservations make so I know I have a spot and not having to sleep on the road because the (A Loop spots are all taken, first come first served). Great trails with lots of history plaques.

Lovely campground but NOT busy in October. It really should just all be first come first served. Also recreation.gov requires an app that does not work on older cell phones so it is extremely difficult to reserve a site. This unfairly penalizes lower income and older individuals who may not have a new cell phone or are less tech savvy. Yes it is possible to call a phone number but this does not allow the user to review what is available and choose a site they like.

Reservation dates. Most individual campsites are reservable up to 6 months in advance (some are first-come, first-served only). Group campsites are available by reservation only-- up to 12 months in advance until the day before arrival. Group campsites are NOT available first-come, first served. |

Group Campsites. The group campsites are for tent camping only and for groups of 10 to 20 persons per site. You may camp only in the campsite you reserve. |

Entrance Fees. Bandelier National Monument charges an entrance fee separate from camping fees. You may pay the fee upon arrival at the Automated Fee Machine at the Bandelier Entrance Station, at the Bandelier Visitor Center during business hours or purchase in advance. The park also honors Federal interagency passes (e.g., annual, senior, access, 4th grade, Golden Age pass etc.). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. |

The Bandelier NM shuttle has begun for the 2026 season. The shuttle, operated by Atomic City Transit, runs from the Frey Trailhead (across from Black Bear Loop) to the visitor Center in Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle expands parking capacity and offers campers a great opportunity to easily hike the Frey Trail and experience the breathtaking views on a 1.5-mile trail that follows the historic (pre-1930s) route into Frijoles Canyon, then shuttle back to the campground later in the day. Once in Frijoles Canyon, more than 70 miles of additional trails are easily accessible. The shuttle runs on select dates March-October from 10:30am to 4:45pm. Complete schedule can be found here. |

Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and will be strictly enforced. Generators may be used only from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All areas beyond the campground are closed to the public after dusk. |

Camping Equipment. Individual campsites allow only one (1) RV per site. Pop-up trailers count as a recreational vehicle. Group campsites are for tent camping only. |

Parking. The use of all vehicles (including bicycles and trailers) is restricted to the parking area. All vehicles belonging to campers must be parked in the designated parking spots for the occupied campsite. Overflow vehicles must be parked in Juniper Family Campground overflow lots. |

Food Lockers. Bears are known to be active in Bandelier National Monument. Please keep food, garbage and scented items locked up and unavailable to wildlife. Bear lockers are provided in the campground for storage of these items. |

Pets. Pets are permitted in the campground, picnic area, and parking lots only and must be leashed at all times. Pets are not allowed on any hiking trails within the park. |

Water: Potable water is available year-round at spigots located throughout each Loop of the campground. There are no hookups at any campsites. A seasonal RV dump station is located inside the entrance to the campground (open mid-April thru October). No showers or laundry. The campground and park do not offer showers or laundry facilities. |

Prohibited activities. Group sports (volleyball, horseshoes, etc) are prohibited. Possession and/or use of fireworks or metal detectors is prohibited. Use of firearms is strictly prohibited and they may not be carried inside of government buildings. Digging or any other soil disturbance at campsites prohibited. |

Firewood and Campfires. Gathering firewood is prohibited. During hot and dry summer months, fire restrictions are common and campfires and charcoal fires may be prohibited. Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site.
