Great little campground. Exploring Bandelier National Monument was a highlight of our trip.

Attractive campground, restrooms and site clean. Firewood available at kiosk. One bar cell service for Verizon, better service at Kiosk. All campers were respectful and limited noise.
Only issue was several other campers had rigs that were 30 feet which did not allow for tow vehicle parking causing road hazard. NOTE: max length is 24 feet. If you choose a larger rig, then stay at a cg that is designed for that size.
Lot's of trails to hike and shorter strolls available in Bandelier and surrounding areas. Had breakfast burrito at Cafe which cost $10.

The new reservation system does not accommodate a day-use request. I wasn’t sure how to secure a site for pre-dawn arrival and departing in the afternoon at 3:00.

Juniper Campground is overall very nice & the service sink are much appreciated extra. Like a lot of NPS campgrounds, only one sink in the bathroom is a real choke point at peak usage times. A minor point is that it would be nice if closures for cleaning were at a set time which would be posted & not at peak useage times. LED lights in bathroom are way too bright, near blinding, & are certainly not compatible with protecting dark skies.

Recommend the Frey trail to the visitor center. great views and take the shuttle back up.

Once settled in, it was a great campground. However, reservations and getting a spot were difficult, with a lot of conflicting information from recreation.gov, the billboard on site, and how things actually work. For B loop, you must use recreation.gov -- no way around it after you get there, no way to adjust. Calling recreation.gov, they say "talk to the people on site." On site, the rangers say "talk to recreation.gov; we have nothing to do with it." The poster at the campground says to call a number for assistance -- the local visitor center. First, it's impossible with cell phone reception, so it's a hike or a shuttle ride to the visitor center (to get the above information). Ugh. Your best bet is to get a site on loop A when you first arrive, and pay at the box. Then go hike somewhere to get cell service to find a spot you really want after personally looking at loop C and B. Loop B, however, has few sites with level pads; most are at quite a tilt. Loop A has better pads. Shade is an issue in the summer -- hard to tell online which are shaded, but loop C has the best chance of shade.

We booked two RV sites in loop C, the nature and view was amazing, near the campground we saw a big rattlesnake. The campground is very good and quite, the restrooms are very clean.

Pristene grounds; attentive, helpful, pleasant and professional staff. My take-out meal prepared in the Cafe was delicious! And I loved being able to walk it off along the Pueblo (something) Loop. Beautiful country.

Reservation dates. Most individual campsites are reservable up to 6 months in advance (some are first-come, first-served only). Group campsites are available by reservation only-- up to 12 months in advance until the day before arrival. Group campsites are NOT available first-come, first served. |

Group Campsites. The group campsites are for tent camping only and for groups of 10 to 20 persons per site. You may camp only in the campsite you reserve. |

Entrance Fees. Bandelier National Monument charges an entrance fee separate from camping fees. You may pay the fee upon arrival at the Automated Fee Machine at the Bandelier Entrance Station, at the Bandelier Visitor Center during business hours or purchase in advance. The park also honors Federal interagency passes (e.g., annual, senior, access, 4th grade, Golden Age pass etc.). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. |

The Bandelier NM shuttle has begun for the 2026 season. The shuttle, operated by Atomic City Transit, runs from the Frey Trailhead (across from Black Bear Loop) to the visitor Center in Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle expands parking capacity and offers campers a great opportunity to easily hike the Frey Trail and experience the breathtaking views on a 1.5-mile trail that follows the historic (pre-1930s) route into Frijoles Canyon, then shuttle back to the campground later in the day. Once in Frijoles Canyon, more than 70 miles of additional trails are easily accessible. The shuttle runs on select dates March-October from 10:30am to 4:45pm. Complete schedule can be found here. |

Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and will be strictly enforced. Generators may be used only from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. All areas beyond the campground are closed to the public after dusk. |

Camping Equipment. Individual campsites allow only one (1) RV per site. Pop-up trailers count as a recreational vehicle. Group campsites are for tent camping only. |

Parking. The use of all vehicles (including bicycles and trailers) is restricted to the parking area. All vehicles belonging to campers must be parked in the designated parking spots for the occupied campsite. Overflow vehicles must be parked in Juniper Family Campground overflow lots. |

Food Lockers. Bears are known to be active in Bandelier National Monument. Please keep food, garbage and scented items locked up and unavailable to wildlife. Bear lockers are provided in the campground for storage of these items. |

Pets. Pets are permitted in the campground, picnic area, and parking lots only and must be leashed at all times. Pets are not allowed on any hiking trails within the park. |

Water: Potable water is available year-round at spigots located throughout each Loop of the campground. There are no hookups at any campsites. A seasonal RV dump station is located inside the entrance to the campground (open mid-April thru October). No showers or laundry. The campground and park do not offer showers or laundry facilities. |

Prohibited activities. Group sports (volleyball, horseshoes, etc) are prohibited. Possession and/or use of fireworks or metal detectors is prohibited. Use of firearms is strictly prohibited and they may not be carried inside of government buildings. Digging or any other soil disturbance at campsites prohibited. |

Firewood and Campfires. Gathering firewood is prohibited. During hot and dry summer months, fire restrictions are common and campfires and charcoal fires may be prohibited. Check the Alerts & Conditions page on the park website or call the Visitor Center for information on current fire restrictions. |

Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site.
