Gallo Campground

Quiet. Clean. Excellent evening ranger presentation.

The campsite was well-maintained and nicely equipped, with a wooden border built around the tent site with tie-downs for my tent canopy's rope lines (necessary due to high evening winds). The location was great, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

It was a nice stay. The sand box for the tent pad was helpful. There was ample room for us. The closest bathroom to us was out of order though for both women and men. We had to walk a fair amount farther to a restroom facility. With that being said, the bathroom that was working was clean and seemed well maintained. I would definitely camp there again.

Very nice accomodtions. Camp host volunteer very helpful and available. Flush toilets and sinks very clean.

Crowded & Loud
Not at all what I expected or hoped for at Chaco. Some sites are so closely clustered together you’re practically on top of each other. The group site is right in the middle too.
Apparently, they save some of the best, most spacious sites for same day, fcfs reservations. How is that fair?
While the 1 host was very nice in allowing me to move to a quieter site, neither host enforced quiet hours. A college group stayed up past 1am, loudly talking and walking around.
I’m not sure why others are allowed to devalue the experience. I didn’t fly cross country and drive all the way to Chaco to stay at a crowded party campground.
NPS - have fewer sites that are spread out and enforce the rules

In the past we were able to get a guided tour of the Benito Big House. We were told this time that there were not staff available to do that. The restroom near our camp site was "out of order" during our entire stay. It is a crying shame that our beautiful national parks are underfunded while this administration is taking the money away from the parks to fund ridicules projects at the White House and Capital Mall!!! The US is better than this.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gallo campground. We really appreciated the flush toilets and that we could get water at the campground (during warm weather months). Chaco Canyon was amazing. We visited as many historical sites as we could during the 3-night stay. We will be back to visit more. We went on the Ranger-led tour of Pueblo Bonito. It was worth it!

The stars! Love the campfire ring and picnic table. Sunset hike up the trail out of the campground exceeded my expectations!
