It was a great relaxing getaway. The tent was great and the entire campground was very clean. The hosts were very helpful and informational. However, as stated on the website due to Covid there is no longer an ice chest. This is no problem as we had brought our own. However it is stated on the website that there is a lantern and firewood neither of which is provided. We were told upon checking in that if we wanted firewood we would have to go back out of the campground to a couple of the local stores to hopefully purchase some if they had it. Fortunately we had brought our own firewood and lanterns but I feel that the lack these two items should be expressly mentioned when the reservation is made. In addition there are stinkbug issues at several sites. Our site was one of the less problematic but 4 days after our return home we were still finding the occasional stinkbug in our home even after diligently hanging our gear in the garage to air and try to find all the little buggers. This will need to be addressed in the future either by somehow sealing the floors of the platform or some other method as this is how the stink bugs are getting into the tents.

Unfortunately like many reviews before this one, we recently had the same negative experience regarding this campground’s site hosts. I could go into detail about our weekend but I will save you time and simply tell you: DO NOT book these unless you are a quiet couple or small family planning to be in bed before 9pm or want to be woken up around 6AM.

We stay at several campsites every year and understand campground etiquette but the quiet hour standards here are unrealistic. These are not made for groups over 4-6 people and are absolutely not for sitting around the campfire after dinner for games or s’mores. The hosts are just very hit or miss, we had one that was helpful upon check-in and then another harass us our last night by the leaving us in fear/confusion of the cops being called and sitting in our site with his cart lights off making us INCREDIBLY uncomfortable at 9:50PM. Other guests from different sites spoke with us about facing the same threat and confusion.

The campground itself is beautiful and bathrooms are clean. Sites 80-83 had a lot of stink bugs (our group woke up each night to a few in bed) but that’s camping I guess. We felt very safe in regards to bears and the campground is technically gated.

Overall I doubt we would ever go back unless it was just my husband and I but honestly I would spend the money trying another site beforehand. I wanted to share our experience in case you are considering the same type of trip we planned (rented 6 tents total for our yearly friends/couple reunion). I ignored the previous reviews and naively didn’t understand the impact these hosts could have. Each night we spent our time talking/stressing about the situation instead of catching up. Unfortunate.

The employees are friendly and the glamping tent is so great! Bring your own bedding for the cot. Coffee and a cooler we’re not provided, I think due to Covid. So I think they need to update that in the ad. Overall we and our kids the best weekend ever.

  • This site does not allow for an additional camping unit. There is not enough room to accomodate personal trailers, pop-ups, RV units, or 5th wheels. Any person arriving with a reservation for a glamping site hauling aforementioned equipment will be asked to park the equipment off site for the duration of their stay.

  • The power units have approximately 1000Wh (12.0V, 1,000Ah). They are excellent for recharging phones, laptops, and tablets, illuminating small lights, etc. They are not intended for heavy uses of heaters, large fans, cooking equipment or other heavy electronics. Units cannot be recharged quickly (once the power unit is drained it takes 18 hours to re-charge), so guests should use the power available conservatively. Charge times for various devices are located on the units and if damage or impairment of the normal operation of the unit occurs guests will be liable.
  • Due to the natural outdoor environment and the fabrics and canvas of the tent, as well as comfort for future guests, we do not allow smoking inside the tent or on the tent porch. Please also be considerate and remove dirty/muddy shoes or boots on the tent porch.
  • Pets are allowed on-site. Dogs must be kept on-leash or contained and supervised for the duration of your stay. Dog fences are not allowed in the campground. Pets are not allowed on the beach.
  • Campground hosts are available to glampers, and their sites are clearly marked. Hosts are present to provide assistance and guidance to visitors at any time.
  • Fires are only permitted within established fire rings. DO NOT burn material which could contain metal objects such as nails, screws, etc...
  • No personal boats are allowed on the lake.
  • This campground is managed by Naventure.
  • Don't Move Firewood. Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
  • Swimming area open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day.
  • Lake Powhatan is located in black bear territory. Visitors are expected to keep all smellable items locked away inside a camper, vehicle, or provided bear box. Visitors who do not comply with this rule may be asked to vacate the facility due to an increased risk of public safety.
