Busier than I expected. Not many sites available to choose from. The site we ended up with was nice. The showers and restrooms are well kept. The water could have been hotter but very grateful for the amenity. Welcoming and helpful staff. Nice work!

Weather was great, no fire due to the statewide burn ban, campground was a bit loud

The campground is awesome! The sites are spaced reasonably apart, so youβre not stacked right up against other campers. Each site is spacious and well maintained. During my stay, they were in the process of installing new bear boxes on freshly laid cement pads at every site.
There are sufficient water stations and dumpsters throughout the campground, so youβre always in close proximity to running water and waste disposal.
All of the hosts and staff were very friendly and polite.
I am only giving 4 stars because of an issue with Recreationdotgov, not the campground itself. I was completely unaware of the statewide burn ban when reserving my 5-night stay. Nothing during the reservation process informed me of the burn banβno notice on the website, no complimentary email, nothing until I checked in at the campsite.
I do take partial responsibility for not knowing, but I also feel this is something Recreationdotgov should clearly communicate before reservations are made, because it would have changed my itinerary. I likely would have moved my reservation to Tennessee, where campfires were permitted.
Aside from that, my stay was pleasant, and I would definitely stay here againβand most likely will in the future.

Great campground, the guests could use a small camp store for essentials.

Had a fantastic camping experience at Lake Powhatan Campground. The sites were clean, well-spaced, and surrounded by beautiful forest, which made it feel peaceful and private. The lake was perfect for relaxing, and the trails nearby were great for hiking and exploring. Facilities were well maintained, and the best part was warm showers. Overall atmosphere was calm and family-friendly. Definitely a great spot to unwind and enjoy nature β weβll be coming back again.

Beautiful park. Sites are nicely separated. Staff was super friendly. Itβs about an 20 minute drive into Asheville. Only disappointment was the lakeside loop was not anywhere close to the lake. I had pictured being able to see water from our site. It was about a 1/2 mile walk to the lake.
I would definitely stay here again.
