The campsite is close to Mt.Mitchell, that’s nice. However, the camp is right next to a highway so you definitely don’t get the “in complete nature” feel. Probably will never return but it wasn’t that bad.

The pavilion is a great spot but the electrical has been out all summer. If you plan to picnic there, plan your activities around the day time hours.

Wonderful swimming experience and tubing on the South Toe River. Very helpful and friendly staff. Only downside was being so close to the road.

Beautiful scenic campground right on the Toe river. Our site was great (site 13) but some sites are quite small and awkward so you need to pay attention to which one you book. Great access to swimming holes and when the water is a little higher, probably tubing. Could see many trout in the river too, so fishing is probably also good. Campground is bisected by Hwy 80, so traffic noise persists all night. Also the bath house is located toward the north end of the campground so it would be nice if they would add a bath house near the south end. The hosts were very nice and welcoming!
