Cape Point Campground sites have a shortened reservation window. Due to the ground saturation and potential for flooding we encourage you to check the sites prior to paying. Cape Point Campground is centrally located to all of the attractions on Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The campground puts you within walking distance of arguably the best fishing and surfing on the east coast.

Peaceful. Nearly empty. Geese deer and one Fox sighted. Bathrooms and showers nice. Staff friendly and courteous and they leave you alone unless you ask. Within walk or short drive of beaches and surf. Absolutely no hookups. Reservations are made available at the last few days because many sites can go underwater. This is not your standard resort. If you like solitude, surfing, fishing and peace go here.

Secluded and quiet. Never crowded with plenty of space to ride bikes, fly a kite, grill out with the family that includes beautiful beaches located on the off road access ramps. Always our go to place. If you are looking for hot showers, night life, and a busy city scenic vacation, this is not the place for you to visit.

Although we wanted to have the ultimate camping experience, it was great having showers and potable water. We stayed for 2 nights and it was awesome. There were some neighbors that were a bit loud during quiet hours, but other than that, campsite was 10/10

Second time camping at the campground. Awesome views of the lighthouse and in close proximity to the beach. Usually the grass is mowed in each camp spot, and campground kept very tidy. Restrooms and showers in good condition.

Cape point campground was just pretty meh in my opinion. It’s basically just a grassy field, that definitely needed to be cut. Also, there is no shade whatsoever so you will get baked if you’re not prepared. It is close to the beach and lighthouse, so that’s a plus. Not terrible, but nothing to rave about.

Policies & Rules

General

  • The campground is in a low lying area that floods easily after a heavy rain. Reservations may be canceled with limited notice.
  • Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
  • Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
  • Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove or other self-contained unit.
  • A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
  • There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
  • Pets are welcome but must be on a 6' leash at all times. Electronic collars are not considered a leash. Pet excriment must be picked up and disposed of in trash recepticles.
  • Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
  • All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
  • All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
  • The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
