Cape Point Campground is a well-maintained and peaceful destination, offering clean facilities and quick beach access, making it ideal for fishing and outdoor activities. Many visitors appreciate the quiet atmosphere, spacious sites, and the presence of wildlife, such as deer and rabbits. We found a dry spot and enjoyed the solitude and the beauty of the area! Enjoyed seeing the lighthouse! Facilities were clean and the Ranger was present.

Very good experience, quiet, all amenities available, clean. The ground is a bit damp but overall a great site. We will be returning.

Cape Point is my favorite campground. No bugs this trip. Small number of other campers. My campsite and tent withstood 4-5 torrential showers, no flooding at my site, some minor flooding at others.

The downside of Cape Point is that it often floods or is even spongy during dry weather and campsites are on a first-come, first-serve basis because of this factor. The upside is that it is not overused (over 200 sites) and has relatively few bugs as opposed to Frisco, and Ocracoke. If you like to fall asleep listening to the ocean and frogs galore, it's a great place when accessible. Other bonuses are the lighthouse is your nightlight every 10 seconds, and there's a ton of wildlife roaming throughout. There's also a nearby beach on both side of the point.

As long as it's not flooded, this place is great for dry camping. (LOL, dry camping)
I've never seen it even close to full (of campers) but you do need to call ahead and check on the flooding conditions. And keep a close eye on the weather. If there's any significant rainfall coming, you had better have a backup plan.
Best campground on the East Coast for surfing, IMHO.
Easy, direct access to some of the best surf spots on the coast.
You can purchase an off-road pass online and drive your 4x4 on the beach or there are parking lots within easy walking distance to the beach. All within this state park.
There are several bathrooms scattered throughout the campground that are pretty clean.
The showers are in separate buildings but the water is not heated. So that might not be fun during the colder months. There are no showers near the beach access parking lots.
There is a dump station on the way in/out that is not monitored so I am pretty sure anyone could use it, for free, even if you are not camping here.
There are no hookups at the sites but there are water spigots throughout the park, but they are not threaded. So if you want to use them to fill your RV fresh water tank you will need an adapter, like a "water bandit". There are also water hoses at the dump station with signs that say it is "Clean Water ... for domestic tank only".
The sites are all paved and there is plenty of room between them. Some of the most spread out sites I've seen. There aren't any shade trees anywhere but the grass areas around the sites is well maintained. There's also a good amount of shrubbery separating sections of the park, which keeps it from looking like a giant parking lot. On my current stay I had an entire row to myself and could not see another camper from my site for the first 2 days.
Overall, it's a very quiet and relaxing place to camp with great access to beautiful beaches and a view of the Caper Hatteras Lighthouse.

I have stayed here many years in the same location. Very close to shower and toilet. Weather was beautiful during the day. There were a couple of night showers, however clear during the day. Will definitely stay there again!!
