The campground is in good condition and the host was very pleasant. Someone on a nearby property spent a significant time shooting every day we were here, which was noisy and not the peaceful environment we anticipated. The large field between the campsites and the road is great for kids to run and play. The road did see a lot of noisy traffic (motorcycles, sports cars en masse, etc.) but the campground was very quiet at night and you could hear the river then. We probably will not stay here again, preferring a quieter experience all around, but if you are passing through or like to fish, it's a good spot. Not far to the Blue Ridge Parkway with close access to Black Balsam, Graveyard Fields, etc. for hiking and recreation.

Great small campground with clean easy to access bathrooms. No gnats at the site. Good birdwatching. We hope to come back.

This camping experience was definitely one of my top ten.
Very peaceful. A swimming hole within walking distance.
The camp host Ronnie is the best. Helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Great host.
A must do because over 30 waterfalls in this area. I've seen 9 so far. Going back in October to see more of them.

General
- Sunburst campgrpuond is open from March 23-November 15.
- Availability is extremely limited during weekends and holidays and it is recommended that visitors reserve campsites ahead of time.
- Pets are allowed on-site. Dogs must be kept on-leash for the duration of your stay.
- Limit 2 tents and 2 vehicles per site; $5 additional vehicle fee collected on-site.
- Tents must be on the gravel.
- Sunburst is located in black bear territory. Visitors are expected to keep all smellable items locked away inside a camper or vehicle whenever they are not on-site. Visitors who do not comply with this rule may be asked to vacate the facility due to an increased risk of public safety.
- Campground staff can be found at the managers site from March 23 - November 15. Please call 828-577-4910 for assistance or 911 in the event of an emergency.
- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
- Firewood available for purchase on site.
