Campground looks worn and in need of improvements, it is well maintained. Has bathrooms with showers. Has water every 3-4 sites. It is a long way from the main road.
No stores nearby. Franklin or Haysville is a 20-25 mile drive up and down some BIG mountains. Good hiking in the area.

Such a lovely place. You can do great hikes right from here. I do feel that it was not right to charge $25 for a load of firewood that was too wet to burn.

The campground is nice with many different hiking trails. We stayed on loop 5 which I loved. It was up the side of the mountain and felt very much like forest camping. The only issues I ran into were on the weekend it was noisy at night (neighbors up playing guitar and singing until midnight), lots of dogs barking, showers on Loop 5 weren't the best but still had great water pressure. I would definitely stay again, but only during the week.

From Franklin, North Carolina, take U.S. Highway 64 west approximately 12 miles, passing through Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, turn left on West Old Murphy Road (State Route 1448) and watch for a directional sign for the campground. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campground sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into the campground.
The campground is accessible via U.S. Highway 64, which is approximately 12 miles from Franklin, North Carolina, and connects to State Route 1448 (West Old Murphy Road) leading to the campground.
