Great experience in this small campground of about 20 sites in the National forest. Minutes from Dry falls ( which is stunning and anything but dry). Sites were lined with a healthy Rhododendron base under the canopy. There was water but no dump station. Neighboring park had swimming, fishing and some nice hikes.

IT’S SO LOUD!!! Half the sites (double digit sites) are against the main road. It is very loud. You will not hear birds, you will hear loud traffic. Single digit sites on the outer ring are quieter. You can hear the birds. Otherwise everything is perfect but it’s the noise that kills it for me.

We spent a lovely two days. The trail to Cliffside Lake and the walk around the trail wasn't strenuous but a good length with beautiful scenery. It rained on and off so we were treated to the sight of many mushrooms. The camp host kept the bathroom so clean and the sites very tidy. We had visiting bears one evening and they were diligent in making sure all visitors were aware and being safe.

I was in site 008 and I was expecting to be more secluded and further from other campsites considering the map on here, but there are more campsites than shown. Otherwise it was a lot of fun. Sites were clean, bathrooms and showers were clean, water was hot. It was a lot of fun!! Thankfully never saw the bears but there were 3 roaming around one night. The hosts are so nice and respectful, it was nice having them right across from us! Definitely recommend, and the waterfalls are so close and so fun!!

We chose Van Hook Glade for the 4th of July weekend because our dog gets scared of fireworks, and it turned out to be the perfect sanctuary. The campground sits at a higher altitude, so the temperature was warm but still a massive relief compared to the overall heatwave hitting the lower elevations across the Eastern US. The park's layout and canopy did an good job dampening noise; the only fireworks we heard were very far off in the distance, and our dog didn’t fret at all. It is a fantastic, short drive from Atlanta.
We stayed in Site 7, which was very nice and felt nicely secluded. A highlight of this site is the easy access to a quiet roadway right behind us that leads straight to Cliffside Lake. The road itself isn't noisy or busy with traffic, making it perfect for peaceful morning runs. The lake loop is level and incredibly scenic, which was ideal for easy walks with our older dog.
Campers should definitely be bear-aware, as black bears are very active here. We saw a bear a few times during our stay. Unfortunately, some neighboring campers left heaps of food out at their sites, which will bring the bears over. Fortunately, the camp host was incredibly attentive, proactive, and quick to safely send the bear on its way. Please practice strict food storage habits here to keep the wildlife safe.
We cooked out at the campsite most of the time, which was great, but the campground is close to the town of Highlands, North Carolina. It is a totally cute, historic place, and it was nice to easily head into town for a nicer dinner one evening. Van Hook Glade offers the perfect balance of a quiet, mountain retreat with easy access to civilization. Highly recommend!

Great campsite! We ended up staying at site number 4 which had a little field for our kids to play in. It was perfect! The hosts were great. We hiked to ranger falls from our campsite and had a great time!

We had a great trip at VHG State Park. It was my girlfriend's first time camping and we were glad to have the amenities like fire pit, tent pad, running water and a got shower! The camp hosts did a great job of making us and the other campers feel welcome. They also provided firewood at a great price and the entire campground was very clean. We will for sure be coming back to VHG in october.

Had an enjoyable week at the campground. Robert and Inez were great hosts, courteous and professional, they took great care in keeping the sites raked smooth and the fire pits cleaned. The restrooms and showers were also kept clean and stocked.
