Beach is awesome, however if you're walking from the campground to the beach the sand is very deep with ruts from vehicles driving over it. Once you get near the water its great. Maybe a 5 minute walk to the beach, we did encounter those nasty biting sand flies. Fine while you're walking, but be prepared if you stand still or sit around. Lots of repellent is in order. But the quiet beach, views and location can't be beat. Also the showers are great here, nice and hot, plenty of water. Bathrooms were well kept.

Good location. The dump station was closed which caused an inconvenience and the public showers were outside and terrible.

Not much privacy or shade but had clean bathrooms, warm showers, and charcoal grills. Beach is just a short walk over the dunes.

Love this campground! Facilities are clean. Close to beach. Nearby attractions include Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Oregon Inlet Fishing Center (for fishing charters, dolphin cruises, etc.), Nag's Head, wild horses in Corolla, Jockey's Ridge, Wright Brothers Museum, Lost Colony show and Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, Ferry to Ocracoke Island (from Hatteras), lots of shopping (unique seaside art shops and outlets), etc.

What an awesome place! Exactly what an Outer Banks campground should be.
My site was no-hookups because it was a last minute booking, but I was immediately adjacent to the clean, well maintained bath house. I enjoyed how the campground was integrated into the existing dunes. This made the sites feel more private than they otherwise would have.
The campground is a moderate walk (10 minutes thru deep sand) to the most pristine, uncrowded, undeveloped beach. Not a building in sight. If you are looking for a Myrtle Beach kind of experience, go there. But if you’d like a few days with no crowds, this is the place.
The campground is a short drive to more developed areas with restaurants, shopping, etc.

This is a great place to spend a few days right by the beaches of The Outer Banks. Everything was perfect when we camped there. Washrooms were clean, showers worked well. There is no shaded area so be prepared if you only have tents. Lots of mosquitos and other insects that can be an issue if you don't have the proper insect repellent. Will be back again next year.

Part of the problem was terrible weather which the campground cannot be responsible for however, preparing campsites so they won't be too susceptible to issues would be the prudent thing to do. The campground was poor at best because of this lack of preparedness for bad weather. They would be okay for dry weather. Our campsite was well below water from the rain received before and during our arrival. Furthermore, the stated length of the site did not fully contain the trailer as the hitch stuck out in the loop road. Adding to the frustration of this campground was that your vehicles could not be parked next to the camper unless it was on the campsite on the same surface of the camper. On top of that, being a non electric site was that we were told that generators could not be used during quiet hours of 10pm-6pm or 11pm-7am.....I don't remember exactly what they said they were. I did not see that anywhere in the online description of the campsite and was not aware of that until checking in. I could deal with that but not to be made aware of that until check in is not good. Now I am sure these would be pretty decent campgrounds under good or ideal weather but how about using some of those millions of dollars we send overseas to just make these campgrounds a little better, liking adding water and electric to all the sites. If I was tent camping then I would expect to be roughing it more but when you are in a Class A or C motorhome or a travel trailer, you do expect a little more. Now this is no fault of the park rangers and the volunteers who were absolutely great. They are dealing with the limitations they have at hand. Good people!
