The WiFi didnβt work and I was close to the main bldg in B-6. It worked when I stood at the main bldg but as soon as I walked to my camper the signal was lost

Beautiful place only a sand dune from the ocean and good location for seeing the entire outer banks sights.

Campsite #11: Van camper, April 29, 2024. This is a primitive site! Very windy too - you are on the Outer Banks after all. Choose not to pitch tent due to wind and blowing sand. There were several hardy campers in tents, although expect they had much sand in their bedding. Camp stove on picnic table would be difficult to keep lit and blowing sand most likely to find its way into your cooking. Restrooms were nice (running water) and clean. Showers were more primitive; separate from the restroom bldg, with 3/4 doors (feet and head visible to outside) and an overhead center "shower" head with pull lever to activate. I found it difficult to not wet my clean clothes and towel (draped over the door) with this overhead shower. This "shower" is most likely suited to rinse off sand and salt while wearing your swim suit.

The campground is a 5 minute walk through the dunes to the beach. The campground has three loops: dry camping tent only, and two loops for RV &Trailers. Oddly about a third of the RV/trailer sites do not have water or electric which results in someone running their generator which makes it impossible to enjoy the sounds of the birds and ocean. Generator hours are from 6AM to 10 PM! Stay away from the dry sites if you can.
Sites are paved and fairly level. Itβs a 15 minute drive to stores. There is some road noise but the campground is usually quiet and relaxing.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00- $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.

Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited. |
