It was a decent campground. However, only one bathroom was open and the beach access was still closed. In summer, the closest good swimming option was Atlantic Beach. We considered New Bern's public pool/ splashpad too.
New Bern has nice restaurants, playgrounds, and a few fun shops. Poppy's Bites and Barrels and Morgan's Tavern are recommended.
One set of camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Campsites (and tent pads) were gravel with some large rocks.
Once beach access is restored, it will be a nice but small campground.

Chose Flanners based on being invited to co-camp with another couple. We love the New Bern area and thought a new type of camping, that we had not experienced yet would be an adventure. The bath houses and the camping sites were good. The only issue was that the dump site for the black water tank was not functional( I assume due to heavy rain).

Peaceful clean campground. Lots of cardinals and hummingbirds. Surrounded by lots of nature. Bathrooms/ shower was good. Nice trails for hiking. Campsites are good size with many having good privacy.
Only downfall was other bathroom and beach access still closed due to hurricane Florence years ago.

We were very pleased with our stay at Flanners, we have stayed there numerous times; although we do have some comments and suggestions. Why is there a manual gate that each camper has to manually open/close to enter/exit, even in rain/severe weather? It is completely unnecessary and more of a nuisance to your campers. If safety is your reason, a manual gate isn’t the answer. The website is a complete mess and extremely frustrating to navigate. There have been countless times we’ve wanted to stay but we’re unable to book, because we cannot ride in our motor home over 2 hours to find that we can’t get in. We have rode down in our car after that and saw the campground almost empty?!? It shows that numerous sites are first come first serve, but they’re not? Only one site when you’re physically there is for a FF? There are campers that are there and have been there for an extended period of time, unoccupied on a site (10) that shows FF indefinitely? (Even though your rules say that you cannot leave your campsite unoccupied for more than 24 hours.) This is the only NC site we have visited that is this poorly managed; it seems as if the camp hosts are running it themselves. The camping location and experience is nice; the booking and many other things are unorganized and unsatisfactory. Suggestions are that the website needs to be redesigned and managed properly. The manual gate needs to be closed during quiet time only. And the camp hosts time served needs to be limited, not just continued for years and years as your current hosts have been; they’re too complacent in their duties.

The gate. Did I say the ridiculous gate? Or maybe it was the gate.
The hosts demand that campers have to get out to open the gate to come in and then get out again to close the gate. The gate halves are 2 feet apart, you can't latch or lock them if you wanted to. It aggravated everyone in the place every time we went in or out during our stay.
The local area is great. Lot's to do and see. We toured historical New Bern, Havelock, Beaufort, and other small towns. We really enjoyed the area.

The campground was nice and very quiet. The problem is simply the campground hosts. They might be the laziest hosts we've encountered in over 5 years of full time rving. They require that you keep the gate closed at all times which is an incredible PITA. Despite their site being literally right next to the gate, you simply have to call them so they can tell you not to speed and keep dogs on the leash. I want that job where I get to stay for free and don't actually do any work. Trails were great but the beach is closed. Cell coverage was good with AT&T. Bathrooms were acceptable but but very clean for hosts that don't do anything else.

We really like this place. We loved all the hiking trails, and the campground itself was really nice. The sites were spacious and private with lots of trees in between there are many interesting places to visit nearby. We definitely would come by again when we’re in the area.
