Beautiful location. Stayed in studio 1 which nice area back up on the mountain. The room made interesting use of space, but it was nice. There were kitchen amenities, but we preferred to cook out on the balcony overlooking the campground, at 6’5” I didn’t actually fit in the kitchen.
The campground is significantly terraced and wooded, this made for a really pleasant stay in the rain. We just left the door open at night to listen to rain or sat on the balcony.
Really good spot for kids. I enjoyed taking hikes on the local trails which are rustic and not overly maintained which provided a good glimpse of the variety of salamanders and newts in the area.
Highly recommended, would stay again.

What a beautiful spot! Close to Banner Elk & Boone, not too far from Lake James and Linville. Grounds were impeccably manicured and cared for. Amenities were extremely clean and accommodating. This 80acre property, once a trout farm offers a great space to walk and make friends with fellow campers, enjoy the serenity of the sliding-rock waterfalls or mountain view from their ridgeline hiking trail and the surrounding natural streams & private, small trout pond allow outdoor folk of all levels to soak it all in. Family friendly or a great getaway for singles/couples who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Everything from fun social site layouts to primitive sites to cabins, there's something for everyone! Be sure to stop by the camp store for your morning cup of Joe and chat with owners Jen, Jeb or mgr Jimmy to get some more history on the area or hear what they have planned for the property. Their hard work and dedication to the property, nature and the people who camp with them is clear and welcoming! Highly recommend checkng it out! We and our two pups had a great weekend! We will definitely be back. Call them for more details on what type of stay your looking for and they'll help you find the perfect site! Thanks to the team for a great stay! See y'all soon!

This is easily one of the finest campgrounds you’ll ever visit. I frequently recommend it to my fly fishing clients who are looking to camp, and the feedback is always fantastic. The owners and staff are incredibly welcoming, the bathrooms are spotless, and the grounds are impeccably maintained. Between the world-class trout fishing nearby and their stocked pond—perfect for children—it’s a premier destination for any angler.

Absolutely the BEST campground in NC. We have stayed here multiple times and the summer of 2025 we stayed for 3 months. Jed, Jenifer, and Jimmy are the most honest and genuine people you will ever meet. They feel like family to us. They have done and continue to do so much for the community. If you are looking for a “REAL” campground, look no further, because you found it!!!

We stayed at Plumtree Campground & Retreat for almost two months while selling our home, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better place. The property is peaceful, well kept, and full of mountain charm. The sites are clean, the setting is beautiful, and it’s the kind of spot where you can actually relax and breathe.
What really made our stay special were the people. Jimmy, the campground manager, was fantastic. From day one he greeted us with a friendly “good morning” and was always willing to help with anything we needed. His kindness and attentiveness made a big difference during a hectic time for us.
The owners were just as wonderful. They clearly care about this place and the community around it. Everything they’ve built here, from the cabins to the small touches throughout the property, shows real heart.
Plumtree is more than just a campground; it’s a peaceful, welcoming place to recharge. The trails, the waterfall, the views, the mountain air… it all adds up to something special.
Whether you’re staying for a weekend or a while, you’ll be glad you chose it. We certainly were.
