What Guests Are Saying
Canebrake Horse Camp is praised for its cleanliness, polite camp host, and well-maintained campsites, making it a favorite for horse campers. Many enjoy the central location to trails and appreciate the quiet atmosphere. However, there are concerns about non-horse campers occupying sites, declining maintenance, and the need for more attentive camp hosting. Overall, it remains a beloved spot for equestrian camping despite some areas needing improvement.

Always a good time staff attentive to needs and easy to communicate with. Warm lights on in bathhouse. Option of corral for horses to roll. Trails maintained well

This is an equine campground. Unfortunately, there were several sites that were taken by non-equine campers. ATV campers and even hunters were camped in this horse campground.

The park conditions are declining greatly, one of the men’s bathrooms has been out of order for six months. After viewing a personnel who was responsible for cleaning the bathrooms which was clear he did not clean any of them only spending two seconds in each one of them. Our stay was every other weekend, each time we had to clean the horses area. It was really bad. The horses area ground is much lower than the surrounding area so it holds water bad when it rains. There are a lot of regular campers and ATV campers do horse campers can’t get in.

It was great to see the camp full of horses and no no horse people at all! It’s very hard for us horse people to get reservations when the non horse people are taking up our sites! If you’re going to continue to allow this then we should be able to stay in the non horse camping area!!!!!

Some horse tie out areas could use more ground cover material. The campground could also use some better maintenance such as weeds sprayed mowing etc.

Throughout the year the Uwharrie National Forest performs prescribed burns. Some of these burns will be next to and around this recreation facility and may cause smokey conditions during the actual burning and for the days following the burns. Sometimes we do not make a decision until the very morning that we will be able to do the burn due to weather and staffing. If you have questions about the prescribed burning possibility please call the Uwharrie National Forest Ranger District office at 910-576-6391 for updated information. |
