We love the remote feeling at Cataloochee. The sites are big and you’re not on top of your neighbor. The drive-in, however, is not for the faint of heart!

Great place. Relatively small campground. But it was so cosy in the evening, like a small village with everyone being so close . And fireflies and wild elks is what we cane for! The whole area is pretty remote. There are no showers but bathrooms pretty clean. Our host Charlie was welcoming and nice. We had great time there and would come again!

Great place. Relatively small campground. But it was so cosy in the evening, like a small village with everyone being so close . And fireflies and wild elks is what we cane for! Absolutely gorgeous campsite with a peaceful, running stream right nearby. One of the most relaxing sites I've been too, despite it also being really full of other campers. Definitely lots of wildlife to see too!

Cataloochee CG is a terrific small and remote one. It's a quiet place with little vehicle traffic due to the narrow, winding gravel road on a mountainside to get to it. We watched elk roam through the campground. Fireflies came out at night. The one bathroom was kept very clean and stocked. Note that if you're hiking, some of the trails as well as some of the unpaved roads by the barn and Caldwell house are really washed out still.

From I-40 take Exit 20 in North Carolina. Turn right onto Cove Creek Road and follow to the Park boundary. The road goes from pavement to gravel to pavement. Upon reaching the pavement the second time, turn left. Go 2.5 miles to an intersection and continue another .5 miles to the left.
Cataloochee Campground is accessible via I-40, with Exit 20 providing the nearest access point. From the interstate, travelers can reach the campground by following Cove Creek Road to the park boundary.
