We had an amazing time at this campground! We rode our bikes a short distance to a meadow each morning and evening to watch the elk graze… it was magical!

Cataloochee Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful camping experience, with friendly hosts and abundant wildlife, including elk and bears. The area is well-maintained, featuring clean facilities and a lovely creek, making it ideal for photography and exploration. However, access can be challenging due to rough roads, and some sites may have issues with standing water and proximity to neighbors.

I had a great and peaceful time there. It would have been better if I had stayed two nights so that I could have left my car parked at my camping site and walked to the Boogerman Trail. Since I was there only one night, I had to drive up at 7 a.m. and get my daily parking pass to park near to the campground.

Honestly don’t recommend this campsite if you are tent camping. VERY close to the bathrooms which means you can hear every toilet flush, hand dryer and door slam close. This noise woke us up throughout the night and this paired with people driving fast in and out of the campsite constantly meant there was no peace. People are not quiet or respectful nor observe quiet hours so do with that information what you will.

I liked the area, but the sites are just way too close. Its hard to be quiet enough for folks even during non-quiet hours. I'm glad we went, but its not for me.
