Cataloochee Campground

Loved our time here!

We have been coming to Cataloochie for over 40 years and it never fails to impress. We had a lovely campsite #5 near the stream and it was lovely hearing the water flowing downstream. Our camp host, Janet Musselwhite was wonderful and full of knowledge. We did some hiking and we were saddened by the damage from hurricane Helene. We enjoyed drives at night seeing the Elk and bears. We will be back.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed this spot very much. It was secluded and away from the busy cities and tourist spots. Check in was easy. Just make sure you do all reservations before you get to the campground. We had starling but had trouble getting it to work for a bit.

Bathrooms and grounds were clean, park was quiet, and people were friendly.

Great campground to unwind and decompress. Off the grid, no cell phone coverage (plan ahead for that). The restrooms/showers were adequate and the campsites along the creek are far enough apart to enjoy some privacy. It was good to see kids riding bikes and floating down the creek in innertubes (I must remember to bring some innertubes next time).
The camp host was helpful and friendly at check in. She even recommended a couple hikes for us and warned about bears and snakes.

Terrible road getting in and out. The site we had, #22, had standing water around the fire pit. In general, all the sites could use some gravel and a little work to avoid standing water.
The valley is a beautiful area with elk and other wildlife.

One of the best trips I've made. Lots of animals to view. I saw at least 3 bears every day. Many elk, and turkey too.

Loved every moment. Rain was consistent throughout the weekend but it didn't take away from the experience. Site was tidy and everything was as expected.
