What Guests Are Saying
Cataloochee Campground is a charming and peaceful spot, well-regarded for its clean facilities and friendly hosts. Many visitors appreciate the abundant wildlife, including elk and bears, and the serene, forested environment. While access can be tricky due to remote roads and no hookups, the spacious sites and beautiful scenery make it a favorite for campers seeking a simple, nature-focused experience.

Our first visit to Cataloochee. Well kept, small, quiet. Mostly tent campers. Had a great time.

This is probably my favorite campsite on the east coast. Spacious sites, good access to amenities, never noise after sunset. No cell service, so itβs great to put the phone in the car and leave it. Great trail systems aside from the obvious main attraction

No ranger ever seen. No host or hostess present for 2 days. A german sheppard off of leash attacked my small dog and chased us down. No daily weather postings. Picnickers weβre in my site when arrived at 1:45. A man told us they had the site till 3, and became hostile. No sense of any rules being followed there with absence of any ranger or host presence. Horrible road to drive on to get in and out of campground.

We went the end of October and found the campground was well maintained and quiet with decent size lots. We were able to hear the stream running alongside with no problem. The camp host was very nice and helpful giving us suggestions for hiking trails. The elk were beautiful, grazing in the evening when we went after 5 PM and again in the morning by 7:15. Able to get some great close up pictures. Road up to Cataloochee is very curvy and hard to see on-coming traffic at times so drive careful.

No store at campground so need to buy your firewood beforehand. There are no stores within 30 minutes so plan ahead.
