need more support staff and less elk volunteers. Elk Volunteers are given to much authority and tend to make problems worse, for example traffic issues. They try to enforce camping and gov. regulations when they do not or should not have the authority to do so.

This place is heaven on earth. Please do not visit when i am there because i like to have the place to myself.

Nice campground. We had a spot by the water and it was very nice. Very primitive sites but the facilities were very nice. We saw a bunch of elk down the road from the campground. The drive back to the campground was very fun!

Nice campground. We had a spot by the water and it was very nice. Very primitive sites but the facilities were very nice. We saw a bunch of elk down the road from the campground. The drive back to the campground was very fun!

I am almost afraid to post about this site as I am afraid others might discover it. IT was quiet, clean and beautiful. Situated between two creeks. There are no services here, so be prepared to bring everything. Bathrooms and water are provided. Limited cell service. If you want to be in a remote area with a lot of natural beauty and a potential elk visit. This is the place for you.

From I-40 take Exit 20 in North Carolina. Turn right onto Cove Creek Road and follow to the Park boundary. The road goes from pavement to gravel to pavement. Upon reaching the pavement the second time, turn left. Go 2.5 miles to an intersection and continue another .5 miles to the left.
Cataloochee Campground is accessible via I-40, with Exit 20 providing the nearest access point. From the interstate, travelers can reach the campground by following Cove Creek Road to the park boundary.
