A wonderful place to camp the spots are nice you have room in most of them great view, and friendly atmosphere.

I like the park. It is close to my home in Hudson nc and with my "old as dirt" lifetime national park pass the price can't be beat!
The park itself is clean, the sites are good. It could use more shaded spots. There are some but in the summer it gets pretty hot. It could use a laundry room. For those of us staying for several days, washing clothes is necessary.
All in all, pretty darned good.

We had a constant number of people cutting through our campsite to get to a beach (not the public access) that were rude. Stay away from site A34 unless you do not mind strangers constantly cutting through your site with their dogs etc.

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 55 miles) to Exit 286B, turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.
From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 miles) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone. Continue to Exit 286B (approximately 20 miles), turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.

Winston Salem: 1 hour.
Charlotte: 1.5 hours.
The campground is accessible via Highway 421, which is approximately 5 miles from Highway 268, and I-77 is also within reach, merging onto Highway 421 toward Wilkesboro/Boone.
