This stay was disappointing. We stay at COE sites a lot. And this one was in the worst shape. The roads leading into the campsites are very narrow which is fine. But there was no care to keep the sides clean. A lot of old tree branches lined the sides and also in the road. When checking in the staff was not rude, but also not very welcoming. Our site was not that level. One side of the RV needed raised 6 inches. Plus I don't think anything is done to the sites between stays. Our fire pit had trash in it and I noticed other sites were the same. Plus there is nothing to do in the campground, but to sit at your site. There is no playground for kids and no lake access. There is a day use area, but that's a LONG walk from the campground. There use to be a waterfall trail, but it has been close. Just seem whoever manages this site, really doesn't care what shape it is in. IMO there are two better COE campground on the southern part of the lake. I'll probably not book Ft Hamby again.

So if your just passing thru and need a 1 or 2 night stay, or you like just relaxing at your site, then you might like it here. We camped at Fort Hamby Park in a Fifth Wheel

Beautiful area, site #14 was very private and quiet. Weather wasn’t the best but it got better. We just stayed 2 nights so I didn’t visit the bathhouse. Over all good trip and will go back!

My husband and I had a great time at this campground! The hosts are amazing people and we wished we could have stayed longer!
We had a site right on the water which was nice!
If you’re in the area, you should definitely stop here!

Beautiful camping sites which are spacious, spread out, and on different levels but many of them have sites across the street so it made it easier to back in.
Saw deer several times and blue herons around the beach.

We love staying on the lower loop near the water. We had site 19, which overlooks the lake. It was quiet and restful to be there. Man it was HOT!
Didn’t use the bath houses or anything so can’t say anything about those. The site was mostly level, all the staff we came in contact with were super friendly.

The campground host were very helpful. The road could be a little wider. With all the rain, the edges are crumbling and falling away. For a camper, dropping off this edge in the turns presents a hazard.

We have camped at corp of engineer parks country wide and even at a coe park nearby and has always been an excellent experience except for this location. Roads are inadequate for a 36 ‘ Renegade super C Motorhome too narrow with no shoulder and in poor condition. We were traveling with a 13yr old who expected to swim in the lake with temperature in the 90s.Upon arrival we’re told the lake was closed due to water level. Which obviously did not occur overnight. With nothing at all for a teen to do and no access to the lake we asked the park attendant to cancel our 3 day reservation which he understood the problem and said he could do nothing about a cancellation request and to contact recreation.gov. Contact with rec.gov where we were able to actually speak to an individual resulted in a denial of any refund at all even though the cancellation procedure without the unusual circumstances would be $10 plus the first day fee. Which would have resulted in a $20 refund. Due to my almost 20yr senior passport. When park amenities are not available to use campers should be advised in advance of scheduled arrival. The park attendant stated he was only advised of the closure on day of our arrival. In addition why did we not receive the standard cancellation refund. Thank you
