If you're looking for a nice, quiet campground under a thick canopy of trees in the mountains. This is the campground for you! If you're most interested in the swimming/lake aspect keep reading. The campground itself has a rather odd layout. Also be aware that there are maybe two sites at this campground with access to the water directly from the campsite. Most of the campsites have an impossible descent to the lake, even a view of the lake is mainly obscured by the trees. We were there over the July 4th holiday, so the campground was full and the bathrooms stayed in a constant need of cleaning that seemed to be limited to once a day. It was nice to get away, but not exactly what we had in mind.

Nice af quite, this trip. No children running around at 7 in the morning yelling up and down the road. Ge volunteers at the entrance were great.

The park is nice for what we wanted/needed.

Nice bathroom, but you really have to drive to it. Good Electric and water. Sites should be categorized by how close they are to adjacent sites. I had a small bush between me and my nieghbor, while the site across from me was shrouded in forest. Much more private site, but no way to tell that on the website. Just a suggestion!

We tent-camp and enjoyed four days with two of our grandchildren. Ft. Hamby offers a lot of activities and we had fun playing disc golf, using the swim beach, and hiking the Bushwhacker trail. Site #14 is a little tricky to back into and a bit small, but fairly private. The downside is that we had to drive to most sites and to the showerhouse because of the distance involved and the steep terrain of the campground. I doubt we will stay at this campground again, although we are very likely to come again for day-use only.
