Fort Hamby Park

Even with the water low, we had a blast!!

This campground is like a maze and not signed very well. Can’t tell you how many times we saw people going the wrong way on what are supposed to be one way streets. Or maybe people just don’t care anymore. It’s also obvious that funds have been cut. Sites are not cleaned out in between bookings. The streets look like they haven’t been repaired in a long time. So sad. One thing that would help when booking sites is an ACCURATE online map of the sites. This goes for ALL of the campgrounds. The photos of the sites, however, are great!

Nice and quiet campgrounds with lots of space between sites and shade.

We have camped at corp of engineer parks country wide and even at a coe park nearby and has always been an excellent experience except for this location. Roads are inadequate for a 36 ‘ Renegade super C Motorhome too narrow with no shoulder and in poor condition. We were traveling with a 13yr old who expected to swim in the lake with temperature in the 90s.Upon arrival we’re told the lake was closed due to water level. Which obviously did not occur overnight. With nothing at all for a teen to do and no access to the lake we asked the park attendant to cancel our 3 day reservation which he understood the problem and said he could do nothing about a cancellation request and to contact recreation.gov. Contact with rec.gov where we were able to actually speak to an individual resulted in a denial of any refund at all even though the cancellation procedure without the unusual circumstances would be $10 plus the first day fee. Which would have resulted in a $20 refund. Due to my almost 20yr senior passport. When park amenities are not available to use campers should be advised in advance of scheduled arrival. The park attendant stated he was only advised of the closure on day of our arrival. In addition why did we not receive the standard cancellation refund. Thank you

Peaceful, woodsy, quiet, clean and the goat was helpful.

The campground host were very helpful. The road could be a little wider. With all the rain, the edges are crumbling and falling away. For a camper, dropping off this edge in the turns presents a hazard.

We love staying on the lower loop near the water. We had site 19, which overlooks the lake. It was quiet and restful to be there. Man it was HOT!
Didn’t use the bath houses or anything so can’t say anything about those. The site was mostly level, all the staff we came in contact with were super friendly.

Beautiful camping sites which are spacious, spread out, and on different levels but many of them have sites across the street so it made it easier to back in.
Saw deer several times and blue herons around the beach.

My husband and I had a great time at this campground! The hosts are amazing people and we wished we could have stayed longer!
We had a site right on the water which was nice!
If you’re in the area, you should definitely stop here!

Beautiful area, site #14 was very private and quiet. Weather wasn’t the best but it got better. We just stayed 2 nights so I didn’t visit the bathhouse. Over all good trip and will go back!
