My husband and I stayed here for a few days in the month of Sept. Our site had plenty of parking space, some privacy due to the trees and foliage. Our particular site had a trail that went down to the water and over looked a prairie setting with some mountains in the back ground. The people who ran the campground were very nice and there are trails that lead to the restrooms with running water and real toilets (that makes me VERY happy!) but no showers. You can shower at campground just outside the park off the main road in town for a small fee. The road to get to the campground is in the park, has beautiful views and you see plenty of wildlife. The only down fall were the mosquito's were TERRIBLE! They came in clouds and bite through clothes.

We had the group site with 8 people and a large RV. It was wonderful! One morning, however, a herd of about 30 bison walked past the tent 2 of the group were in! LOL
Beautiful area.

Great Campsite. Quiet and lots of separation from other campers.

Stayed at Cottonwood campground in September 2019, during the Dakota Nights festival, and couldn't have been happier. Amenities were well looked after, and while there isn't a full visual barrier of brush between sites, there's enough space to not feel on top of one-another. A bison herd moved through the area one day, and it was exhilarating to see them up close βfrom the safety of a vehicle. Dakota Nights was a great event, which I recommend. I wish the park had information about the indigenous peoples and their rich history in the area. This, I felt, was a gross oversight in the visitor center displays, the video about the park, and ranger knowledge (I asked four rangers). What was left was white colonialist history, which was a massive disappointment and a dishonor to the land.

Amazing spot. Spots right on the lake. Camp host was amazing. even lent us some foot long stakes when a storm hit to help secure our tarp. Super scenic, right on the lake , caught several good sized trout. Even caught a few right on the beach. I would tell you what I used, but wouldnt that take the fun out of it ? :)

Worst campsite ever. Trailer door right on main road. Site way too small. Roads were closed. Not returning soon.

My family and I camped one night on our way to Yellowstone. We woke up in the morning to a herd of buffalo right outside our tent. My children were amazed. This was awesome!
We visited Medora and did the Pitchfork dinner and musical.
Campsite 043 South loop is down an embankment from the parking spot which makes unloading and loading camping gear more challenging. We also had trouble finding it at first and drove past it at least once.
Overall, my family had a great experience and this was a great value.

Very much enjoyed our stay. I grew up in New England and have only been able to do it a few times. Will continue to bring my family as we are able.

This is our favorite campground. The scenery is beautiful, the campgrounds are clean and well managed.
