For people visiting the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great place to stay. Located five miles (8 km) from the entrance to the South Unit of the park, the campground is open year-round. Watch out for rain! We had a downpour overnight and the tent site was the lowest spot on the site. I have NEVER had a muddier experience in my life. I literally rang my tent out after taking it down.

We found the campground very nice. Our oy complaint was the trains we could hear. Maybe a mile distance, but maybe 5 trains came through during the night and could be heard very clearly.

We had a very nice campground that felt private due to the trees. A buffalo wandered into our campground one evening and I was great watching him graze.
