For people visiting the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great place to stay. Located five miles (8 km) from the entrance to the South Unit of the park, the campground is open year-round. You are close to many trailheads and very close to Medora if you need supplies or just want to visit this charming little town. I recommend the "Cowboy Cafe" for a great breakfast! It was a lot of fun to do the scenic loop in the evening and do the Buck Hill turn off and watch a beautiful sunset and see herds of Buffalo and Mule deer feeding. The Cottonwood campground is well kept, only downside there are no showers. My site was a walk-in and nicely secluded C-59. Next time I might get a site a little closer to the car so as to do less hauling. My final morning I had Buffalo walk into my campsite as I was packing, We just ignored each other and he went on his way. All in all a great campground!

We stayed in the South section of the park at site 55 and 57 facing the river. The views were lovely. The sites were large and had plenty room for tents. Most have shade except #57 and #58. We enjoyed the stay and wished to have stayed longer

The view from our campsite was breathe taking! We drove the scenic loop after dinner and saw several wildlife! We wish we sound have booked a couple days to see everything!

We really enjoyed our stop at Theodore Roosevelt National Park on our way to Glacier! Unfortunately for us there was a miscommunication with our reservation and it was taken, but the rangers were very helpful and allowed us to stay on the same site with the other party in our group! Overall it was a great stay!
