Restrooms under construction and the bathhouse needs upgrade. Other than that, our stay was quite pleasant. We saw longhorns, bison and turkey.

The campground was very clean and well maintained. The refuge is beautiful with endless trails and vistas. Only downside to our stay was that bathroom facilities were very limited. They are in the process of replacing them so had to walk quite a ways to get to one.

The bathrooms across from our site (C34) were the most disgusting I have ever seen. We cut our trip short it was that bad.

I love the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. The landscape was epic. The overnight stay in the campground was quiet and pleasant. The Visitors Center employees were very helpful, kind, and accommodating. My only disappointments would be the level of cleanliness in the privies. The tanks were very full and needed to be emptied. I was sad that people left trash on the trails. It detracts from the beauty and poses a hazard for wildlife. I frequently hike in the area. I would like to see more sign’s educating people on leave no trace principles.
